Tayme stood and stared miserably at Kaden standing over the girl in the booth. She had actually looked at him, instead of gazing through him. And taken out her earphones, which had never been done for him. And she was speaking to him, instead of just a shake of the head. Why was he surprised? He glared at nothing in particular. More over why the hell was he bothered?
Exams! He reminded himself. Quit behaving like a hormonal teen girl. He glared at his inner teen girl. What is the matter with you, dude? He asked himself, then reluctantly conceded, the dude had been added just to man up the conversation a bit. And why was he having inner monologues when he had far better things to theorise and ponder in his head? Like the Bernoulli Theorem. Or even the meaning of life. His subconscious rolled its eyes.
Throwing one last despondent glance at the two in the corner he made his way back to the counter and handed over the glasses and plates to Stephanie, who was on kitchen duty. He turned around and came face to face with Kaden who looked slightly miffed. Tayme's ears perked up and he quickly looked at the girl then back at him.
"wassup?" He asked as casually as he could, posing nonchalantly against the counter.
"She's a lesbian." Kaden sounded like his cat had just died. Tayme's arm slipped from it's perch and he just barely saved himself a fall. His mouth fell open and he had the sudden urge to swear. Kaden nodded, noting his reaction.
"I know right, what a waste." He went behind the counter and in to the kitchen, no doubt to chat up Stephanie some more.
Well that was that then. Silver lining? At least he would not now be returning in three weeks to find her as Kaden's girlfriend. He smiled.
