Chapter Fourteen

Nora's POV

It had only been a few hours since I had left the ball and something felt off. I couldn't quite explain it. Something was wrong. I needed to find out what, so against my better judgement, I headed back toward the ballroom. Whatever was going on was making my hair stand on its ends.

"My dear child, what troubles you?" Aro voiced as I walked toward the ballroom. I was surprised to see him away from the party.

"Something is wrong. I'm not sure what it is though." I explained. "Why are you out here, away from the guests?"

"I was worried about you. You know you're like a child to me." Aro said and I gave him a half smile. Since I come to Volterra, the Volturi have treated me with care. More care than I knew half of my human life. Aro has become as close as father to me. I wouldn't trade it for the world. "Let's head back to the guests and see if we can figure this out. Maybe Pat has an idea."

With that, we walked arms linked back into the throne room. The guests dispersed around the room, seemingly enjoying their time. I quickly spotted Patrick and Dale.

"You feel it too?" I asked Pat as I made my way over to him. He nodded. "Where are your siblings?"

"The hot head stormed out after going off on the Cullens and Kat followed you out." Dale said.

"Kat was going to head back here. She never came?" I asked perplexed. The boys shook their heads. I began to feel anxious. Where is my daughter? Thinking about that made that bad feeling worse.

I quickly scanned the room, perhaps on instinct and noticed one of the guests were missing. Edward Fucking Cullen. He had better be far away from my child.

I closed my eyes to focus on Kat and I could feel anger, fear, and anxiety coming from her. She wasn't far, because the emotions were still strong.

"Oh shit." Dale whispered. I was pissed. You mess with my child, you die a slow and painful death. Something told me that fucker was with my daughter.

"Nora." Aro has a warning tone in his voice. I snapped my angry eyes over to him, and he quieted. Not even he could stop me when I was like this, a fact he was well aware of.

With a snap of my fingers, I was flanked by Felix and Alec. I looked over at my two children. "Stay."

"But-" Patrick tried argue back

"I said stay." I said, and he nodded. With that, we were on the hunt. I warned that dick to stay away from my child. The chatter at the ball quieted after I threw the doors open with enough force that the hinges broke.

"She's on the warpath." I heard Emmett say to his fellow coven members as I stalked to my daughter's location. I could sense them following behind me but I couldn't care less. I ran as quickly as my vampire speed would take me to Kat's location, which led to outside of the kitchen. She standing pushed against, looking terrified of the vampire in front of her. I quickly pushed him away from her.

"Get her out of here." I commanded Alec and Felix, who rushed to her and moved her to safely. I turned to Edward who had his hands up in a surrender position with a smirk on his face. "I warned you to stay away from her."

"I just had to meet the beautiful girl we created. You couldn't blame me. She was standing here all alone." He said.

"You are a disgusting piece of shit." I growled out.

"Even so, she's beautiful. Takes after her mother." He said and with that I snapped. Before anyone could stop me, I attacked him. All the hurt and pain he caused me all those years ago came bubbling back to the surface. All the feelings I kept buried deep came full force. I made quick work of removing his arms from him. I heard a yell from Isabella Cullen.

"Don't worry, I won't kill you yet. First you're gonna feel all the pain you caused me." I said with a sinister smile. I activated Kate Denali's power and held his head between my hands. I turned it on full power, letting all the anger I held for him fuel me. Suddenly his screams stopped and I looked at his newborn wife. She covered him with her shield.

"Drop the shield." I told her.

"Drop him." She responded. I growled, my anger growing her her. I was getting ready to attack her so her concentration broke when Aro appeared in front of me.

"That's quite enough." He said, looking at me with sympathetic eyes.

"I think not." I said to him.

"I said, stop." His eyes hardening. We had a few minute stare off and I finally let Edward go. His wife broke the shield and rushed toward him. He gasped for air, and looked at me with fear in his eyes.

"I think it's time you retired to your chambers." Aro hissed out at me. I turned and caught the look of my mates. Their faces held shocked expressions.

"Maybe you're right." I said back and went to walk to my room.

"How dare you lay hands on my husband. My mate." Bella said to me in anger.

"That may be your husband, but that's not your mate little vampire." I told her as I continued to walk down the hallway at human speed.

"Excuse me?" She said angrily.

"Why don't you ask your so called family the difference between a mate and a singer." I replied, leaving her confused. This night was too much for me. Times like this, I miss being able to sleep. To close my eyes and forget for just a little while.
