I wake up from a dreamless sleep. I was always a light sleeper, and when I'm in an environment that I'm not familiar with, I fall into a type of sleep that my mind is asleep, but my body is still alert and ready.
I stare at the ceiling for a little bit, wondering again what will happen when I introduce the boys to the girls. I try to come up with a plan. I take deep breaths in and out. I finally settle on having them wait in the tunnel until I can prepare the girls; and that's if it all goes to plan. If the boys stay still and keep quiet until I can introduce them, and the girls don't run around screaming their heads off.
I sit up and slip my feet into my boots. Cautious of my knife in the one boot. I get up and start to walk around the office. I usually go on a morning run, but I've decided to skip it today since I'm going to have to lead these boys all the way back to the compound.
I walk over to the desk, remembering Ren saying my gun was there. The magazine is still in there and I'm glad. I take it out and count how many bullets I have left. About five or so. Our engineers design our guns as well. They're no ordinary guns and they don't take any ordinary bullets. Our bullets are reusable, if you can find them that is. We usually reuse them because we train a lot, all you do it hand the bullet and the shell to the engineers and they'll fix it for you and put it back in a magazine ready to go for the next round.
I put the magazine back in the gun and slide it into its sheath. I let out a sigh and take a seat in the chair behind the desk. I glance at the desk and tell myself no. That it's not right to go through other people's things. But then again, we will be working together, so what's the harm? I'm about to reach towards one of the drawers when a knock sounds at the door.
I draw my hand back like the desk had burned me, "Come in." I say. The knob turns and I watch as Ren peaks his head in. "Hey." I say trying to relax and seem that I wasn't just about to go through his stuff.
"I thought you might be up." He walks in and closes the door behind him. "What time do you suppose we leave Miss Merandise?" He asks as he walks towards the desk with his hands clasped behind his back. I grin.
"As soon as possible. Whenever you can get your boys ready the better." My head tilts to the side slightly.
He nods, "As soon as possible it is. Anything you would like us to take?" He raises an eyebrow.
"Personal possessions they can't bear to leave behind, any food rations you have that won't parish, clothing, science things that they think will be useful, and training equipment. The more the better." I answer and stand up. "We can discuss jobs on the way over there." I walk around the desk and lean against the corner.
"Of course," He nods at me slowly. "Would you like to come help gather things?" He holds a hand to the door. I simply push off the desk and already on my way to the door. Ren follows suit.
~ ~I redo my ponytail as we get ready to leave. It took us about an hour to get everything packed. Most boys carry some personal belongings, but most carry weapons, or science things, or food supplies. I myself am carrying some training things. We had rolled up the mat from their training space, we can always use an extra.
Ren is carrying some of his personal weapons and clothes. Demetri is the same. "Make sure everyone stays together." I tell Ren. We had told the boys they were going to my compound. Some were excited, others looked like they could care less. Finally we started off.
The sun is blocked by the somewhat cleaner clouds that hover in the air. It won't be very hot today and that's good, I don't think the younger boys would've stayed quiet if it were hot.
