Chapter 24

My mother grabs my arms as Brandon walks into the bathroom. She had a extremely tight grip, that I could not break out of.
"El!" I screamed. "Get out of there!"
"Kate!" She cried out.
I kicked my mother right in the gut. She groaned in pain and let go of my arms. I took this opportunity to run into the bathroom and get El, but I was held back my mother, once again.

"You let us in. And now, you are going to have to let us stay." Brandon says, backing El into the wall. "Don't you see? All this time we've been building it, we've been building it for you.
She started to cry. "No! No!" She says, shaking her head.
"Oh yeah! Now, you are going to pay. We're going to end you, and when you are gone, we're going to end your family, and that sweet big sister of yours, then your friends, then the world. All thanks to you."
"No!" She screamed, sticking her hand out and sending him flying through the wall.
He started laughing as he stood back up. "You're going to have to go a lot harder than that." He says, walking over to her.
I free myself from my mother's grip and stand in his way. Right now, I could care less about my safety, I just wanted to protect my sister. He does nothing but shove me out of the way and continue to walk over to El.
She uses her powers to push him away, but he somehow blocks it.
"El!" I scream as he grabs her. He chokes her, lifting her off of her feet, just as Billy did to me.
She kicks and cries but is unable to break free from his strong grip.
I run over and push him off of her. He loses balance and hits his head off of the toilet, causing his head to start gushing blood.
Now, he has his attention all on me. "Maybe if it'll be easier, we'll take out your sister first, then you?" He says getting up and walking towards me.
He shoves me, sending me flying and landing hard on my back.
"Kate!" I can hear El cry out.
He pulls me up by my hair and looks at me.
"Brandon, this isn't you." I say, in pain.
"Its the new me." He turns and walks back to El.
This time, my mother walks up to me.
"Kate, you're making this very hard for us." She says.
I push her into the wall and walk towards El. She grabs my hand and stops me. She pushes me against the wall and hits me in the face, continuously.
I cry out in pain and a super strength comes over me. I push her causing her to fall and smack her head off of the garbage can.
She stares at me as she bleeds out. "I'm sorry." She says as she closes her eyes.
Slowly, her body starts to turn to mush. We all stare at her in awe as the mush slowly starts to flow away.
"Oh my gosh." I say, knowing I just killed my mother.
"Shit." Brandon mumbles.
El uses this time to our advantage. She sticks up her hand and sends him flying.
"Run!" I scream.

We run through the mall, Brandon not far behind us.
"Billy!" I scream, hoping they'd hear us to give us backup.
We near the food court, when Brandon finally catches up with us.
He strikes El in the back of her head, causing her to fall to the ground.
"El?" I scream, but she was knocked out cold.
I go to attack Brandon but he just blocks every hit I attempt to throw.
He shoves me to the floor and slings El over his shoulder.
I struggle to stand back up because I felt so dizzy and sick to my stomach. But, somehow I manage to catch up to Brandon and El.
I gasp at the sight infront of me. Standing in the middle of the food court, was the Mindflayer.
"Billy! Nancy! Jonathan!" I scream, hoping they'd hear me.
The Mindflayer roars as Brandon gently sets El down.
"Stay still. It'll all be over soon." He whispers in her ear.
I run up and hit Brandon over the head.
"You know I really liked you Kate." He says, walking over to me. "I didn't want to have to do this to you."
"Then leave us alone!" I scream.
He chuckles. "I can't do that." He says.
"Up here idiots!" Mike yells from the second floor.
I breath a sigh of relief, thankful they finally got here.
"Shit." Brandon says, grabbing on to my waist, slinging me over his shoulder and running.
"Kate!" I can hear Billy yell out from the top deck.
Everybody started to throw fireworks at the Mindflayer. If you kill the mind, you kill the body.
"If I'm going down, you're going down with me." He says.
Tears form in my eyes. I look back at my life, thinking this would be my final moments. How was dad going to cope with the loss of his second daughter? I wondered.
I pushed all of those thoughts away and figured I was going to fight, not give up.
Brandon starts to groan as more and more fireworks are thrown. He slowly stops and falls to the floor, moaning in pain.
I use this time to run over to El. She was now awake and screaming as the Mindflayer crept closer to her.
"Kate!" She screamed.
"Close it!" I could hear Lucas screaming into the walkie talkie. "Close it now!"
I push El out of the way as the Mindflayer went to grab her. Instead, it ended up grabbing on to my leg.
I could hear everybody scream as it drags me closer to it's body.
I close my eyes as it roars in my face.
I got the two thing I wanted out of life and that was to hear the apology from my mother and to fall in love. Luckily, I had accomplished two of those things and I was very happy and grateful.
