(Meanwhile, back in the castle, Michael was preparing for dinner with the help of Carlton and Lamar.)

Carlton: Tonight is the night...the night to confess your love.

Michael: I'm not sure I can do that.

Lamar: You must!

Carlton: You care for the girl, don't you?

Michael: More than anything.

Carlton: Then why not tell her?

Michael: I can't!

Lamar: You must!

Carlton: There will be beautiful music, romantic candlelight, provided by myself, and then when the moment is right...

Michael: How will I know when the moment is right?

Lamar: You'll feel slightly nauseous.

Carlton: No...no! You will know because you will feel it here...
(He points to his heart.)
...And you must speak from the heart.

Michael: I must speak from the...I can't!

Lamar and Carlton: You must!

Carlton: What are you afraid of?

Michael: Nothing!

Carlton: Master...

Michael: I'm afraid she might...

Lamar: She might what?

Michael: Laugh at me.

Carlton: Somehow my prince, you must find the courage to take that chance.

Lamar: Master...look at the rose! There's so little time left!

Michael: I really don't think I can do this.

Carlton: Here. This might help to bolster your courage.
(Lamar holds the mirror up. Michael groans and looks away. He doesn't want to see, but Carlton turns his head to force him to look. He is dressed elegantly in a purple and black suit. He actually looks good.)

Michael: Ah!

Carlton: You can do it, Master. I know you can.
(Michael exits the West Wing and stands at the top of the stairs. Then Charlie exits from the East Wing dressed in a stunning gold gown and a pair of yellow combat boots.)

(Michael holds his hand out to her. They sit at a banquet table.)
(Marla enters with Jason on top of the teacart.)

[Marla]
Tale as old as time
True as it can be
Barely even friends
Then somebody bends
Unexpectedly
Just a little change
Small to say the least
Both a little scared
Neither one prepared
Beauty and the Beast
(Charlie gets up and crosses to take his hand.)

Charlie: Dance with me?

Michael: No...I...

Carlton and Lamar: DANCE WITH HER!
(Charlie and Michael dance together.)

[Marla]
Ever just the same
Ever a surprise
Ever as before
Ever just as sure
As the sun will rise
Tale as old as time
Tune as old as song
Bittersweet and strange
Finding you can change
Learning you were wrong
Certain as the sun
Rising in the east
Tale as old as time
Song as old as rhyme
Beauty and the Beast
Tale as old as time
Song as old as rhyme
Beauty and the Beast

Marla: Off to the cupboard with you now, Jason. It's past your bedtime. Goodnight, love.
(Marla and Jason exit. Charlie and Michael go outside to sit on the balcony.)

Michael: Thank you for asking me to dinner.

Charlie: Dinner was wonderful.

Michael: Charlie, I...

Charlie: Yes?

Michael: Charlie, are you happy here?

Charlie: Oh, yes...everyone's so kind. Marla, Carlton...

Michael: With me?

Charlie: Yes.
(There's a long uncomfortable silence. Lamar and Carlton enter.)

Michael: I must speak from...

Carlton and Lamar: the heart!
(Michael notices Charlie is looking off into the distance.)

Michael: Is something wrong?

Charlie: I was just thinking about my father. I miss him so much. I wish I could see him again.

Michael: There is a way.
(Michael takes Charlie to the West Wing. He shows her the mirror.)
This mirror will show you anything, anything you wish to see.

Charlie: I'd like to see my father, please.
(The magic mirror shines into life. Charlie turns her head away as it flashes. Then it reveals Henry fallen in the woods, coughing and lost. Charlie is shocked. Michael looks at her with concern.)

Charlie: Dad? Oh,no...Dad! Something's wrong! He's in the woods. I think he's lost...I should...I should...

Michael: Go to him.

Charlie: What?

Michael: You should go to him.

Charlie: But what about...?

Michael: You're not my prisoner anymore. You haven't been for a long time.
(She tries to return the mirror but he pushes it back towards her.)
Take it with you. So you'll always have a way to look back...and remember me.

Charlie: I could never forget you.

Michael: Charlie, I...

Charlie: Yes?

Michael: Go. Go. Go.
(She turns and runs out. He watches her go.)
I'll never see her again.
(Carlton, Lamar, and Marla enter.)

Lamar: Well, sire, I must say. Everything is going just swimmingly. I knew you had it in you!

Michael: I let her go.

Lamar: You what?

Carlton: How could you do that?

Michael: I had to.

Lamar: But why?

Marla: After all this time, he's finally learned to love.

Carlton: That's it then! That should break the spell!

Marla: It's not enough. She has to love him in return.

Lamar: And now it's too late.
(They exit.)

[Michael]
No spell has been broken
No words have been spoken
No point anymore if she can't love me
No hope she would do so
No dream to pursue so,
I finally know that I will always be
In this hopeless state
And condemned to wait
Wait for death to set me free
