Chapter Five
At the start of the day, Tsunade bombarded Yamato with D-ranked missions as he had a day off yesterday. After all Tsunade was the one who gave them a day off so expect a heavy load when she does something off course.
Yamato complained about doing D-ranked missions as he is a Jonin level ninja. He’d rather have A or B ranked missions than do chores disguised as missions.
But Tsunade would just drive Yamato using her tough tone for a woman. Shizune would just stand at one side staring awkwardly. Yamato agreed with the D-ranked missions but he has to split it up with Kakashi since he had a day off too yesterday.
“That’s half of the D-ranked missions. I already gave Kakashi his half so good luck!” She pushed Yamato out of her office.
Yamato sighed heavily as he stared at the simple tasks – tasks so simple it’s enough to bore anyone who looks at it. But he quickly realizes that if he finishes the missions, he’ll have half of the day to himself.
A drive of motivation got him up his spirit and began the first task at the ninja academy. His first task was simple – assistance to Chunin teachers in need. “That would be easy enough” he thought to himself.
He saw Kakashi and Iruka walking his direction. He put on his normal face and waited for at least Kakashi to raise a hand or even look at him but they walked by passing him as if he wasn’t even there. Instead of feeling a little bit of sadness, Yamato felt curious instead.
Why did Kakashi give him a cold shoulder? But the question he tried to confide deep within himself up brought itself: Is there something between those two?
Yamato of course comforted himself by self-reasoning. After all Kakashi is not one to just fall in love immediately although Yamato was never sure if Kakashi likes him or not. But at the moment it would be nice if Kakashi likes Yamato the same way he does.
He first stepped on the playground where he saw Kakashi and Iruka sitting at one bench having a good time. Kakashi wears a mask but Yamato could see the large smile underneath it.
It was P.E. time for the young ninjas in the academy. It was a hassle for Iruka. Yamato smirked seeing him have a bad time trying to tell off hard headed students. That is until Kakashi came in to help. With one order, the students formed a line as if they were in a military academy.
Iruka scratched the back of his head and thanked Kakashi for the help.
Yamato couldn’t take it anymore. He came in closer and merged with the nearest tree.
“Wow. You really have a way with children.” Iruka said.
“I don’t. I’m not really good with kids. I just drove them by fear.” Kakashi replied monotone.
“Well I guess Naruto is right about one thing. Ahaha. Do you want to go for Ichiraku ramen after this?”
“Sure.”
Iruka and Kakashi left to return the students at the academy. Yamato emerged from the tree and thought that his senpai might actually be ‘in’ to someone else. He sat at one bench to calm himself and think things through. What has Kakashi ever done to make Yamato love him? Except for save his life from a giant snake, got him out of Danzo’s grip and taught him the value of friends and comrades?
Yamato gripped his head and just let out a frustrated sigh – a sigh of jealousy and confusion. He thought that maybe it would be better if Kakashi didn’t save him from the snake, at least he’d be dead by now or from Danzo at least he’ll have no past, no emotion and no future or if Kakashi never taught him about friends and comrades at least he’ll never develop a bond with anyone but what’s done is done. Kakashi already made Yamato fall for him. He made so many things that would make anybody fall in love with him.
