After a week, Kakashi and Yamato were summoned at Tsunade's office. Yamato arrived just in time. Kakashi arrived late.

"Good morning, Kakashi." Yamato flashed a smile. Kakashi looked at him with a cold gaze and didn't return the greeting.

"Well now that you're here, I'm assigning you two on an A-rank mission. Go to the borders of the land of fire and see if there are any suspicious ninja. If they cross the border, try negotiating with them but if they refuse to talk... you know what to do."

"Yes, Lady Tsunade" they both replied and headed on their way. It'll be a few hours when they reach the border and they have to stay there the whole night just to see if there are any suspicious nins lurking around waiting for a timing to attack.

In a few hours, they reached the border.

"I'll go check the eastern part. You check the western. We'll both meet up here if nothing seems suspicious. Go!" Kakashi ordered.

"Yes, Kakashi."

The two scattered and monitored the whole border which took them the entire afternoon including coming back to their rendezvous point.

When they both returned, the sun was about to set.

"Why don't we set up our camp, Kakashi?" Yamato asked but Kakashi remained silent. Kakashi set up camp and gathered some twigs and branches.

"I'll take the first watch." Yamato volunteered. Kakashi agreed but still didn't talk. After the fire was set ablaze, Kakashi went out. He sat in front of Yamato, who was facing the other way.

"Come sit by the fire, Yamato. Nothing seems to be suspicious there." Kakashi said softly. Yamato did as Kakashi said and sat by the fire. He rubbed his hands against each other and directed them to the fire. He blew on his hands and rubbed them once more.

"Are you cold?" Kakashi asked.

"A little bit." Yamato answered shortly. Kakashi stood up and sat behind Yamato. He wrapped his arms around Yamato's stomach, touching his body with his and laid his chin on Yamato's shoulder. Later on, he took Yamato's hands and locked it with his.

"Are you still cold?" Kakashi asked once more.

"I-I feel a little warmer now... Umm, Kakashi, why did you go to my house last week?"

"I just wanted to confirm something."

"Wanted to confirm what?" Yamato asked.

"I wanted to confirm if you still love me."

Yamato started heating up from his shoulder to head and his hands became ice cold.

"Your hand suddenly became cold." Kakashi said.

Yamato shook and knocked Kakashi back. He stood up and nodded his head side to side from left to right.

"I'm so confused Kakashi! Why would someone like you bother to confirm something as stupid as that? I know you don't care. You never cared that's why I told you I moved on... but as much as I want to, I just can't seem to do so. I'm too in love with someone who denied my feelings. You!"

He turned his back and Kakashi stood up. "Indeed I never told you that I feel the same way from a few years ago. But I never denied your feelings nor have I not cared. If I don't care then I wouldn't have bothered to make an effort of transferring you on my team. Yamato... Tenzo if you want to know how I feel then this is it. I-"

Before Kakashi could finish his sentence, three kunai with explosive tags were thrown at them.

They evaded the shot and saw massive numbers of Takigakure-nins.

"Sorry to break your lovely conversation boys, but we'll be invading Konoha." said the leader of the ninjas.
