The summer was over and it was school again. Camila was both excited and nervous for the new year that was coming. She was excited because she had been on holiday the whole summer and hadn't gotten the chance to hang out with her friends, but she was also nervous because she wasn't good around people. She got easily shy.
"Do you have your lunch with you?"
"Yes, mom..." Camila sighed, rolling her eyes at her mom.
Sinu leant over the console of the car to straighten Camila's shirt, fixing her glasses, but Camila pushed her hands away, pouting.
"Mom, please..."
"I'm just looking out for you." Sinu smiled, running her hand through Camila's brown locks.
Camila chuckled, slapping her hands away and taking them in hers instead. "I know, mom. But I turn 17 next week; I'm not a little child anymore. I can take care of myself."
Sinu nodded, a sad smile forming on her lips. "I know... You've just grown up so fast!"
"Don't give me that speech now. I don't want to be late for class, can I go now?"
"Do I need to pick you up after school?"
Camila shook her head. "No, Ally has gotten her license and will drive me and Dinah home."
Camila turned her head to look out of the window where she spotted Ally and Dinah standing near the opening of their school, waiting for Camila. "Okay, bye mom." She cut her mom off, kissing her cheek before she grabbed her bag, throwing it over her shoulder and stepping out of the car.
She straightened her skirt once she came out and pushed her glasses up on her nose before she started walking slowly over to her two best friends, but she couldn't hold her excitement in when she neared them and sprinted towards them, throwing herself into their open arms, wrapping both of her arms around their necks.
"Hi, Mila!" Dinah grinned once she pulled away and Camila took a step back, smiling to the both of them.
"How was your trip?"
Camila smiled, "it was awesome. Plus I got to finish my paper while I was on the plane and it was so much fun."
Ally rolled her eyes with a giggle, nodding. "So are you excited for your birthday next weekend?"
"Oh, isn't your cousin coming to town to celebrate it?"
Camila nodded. "Yeah, but I think it's only going to be us three anyway, nothing big." She joked, seeing as they were Camila's only friends, besides her family of course.
Soon enough the three of them made their way inside the school, avoiding as many people as they could. They were easy targets so they had decided to stay low.
Their lockers were right next to each other and Camila was thankful for that otherwise she would probably be too nervous to even getting her books. She couldn't even walk past some people without falling or getting stuck in something.
"Oh no, look down. They're coming." Dinah whispered and the three of them immediately knew whom she was referring to.
Camila couldn't help herself, which she never could and turned her head to the side slightly, getting a little glimpse of pale skin and soon enough green-eyes who were looking directly at her. Shit.
"The fuck you looking at?" Lauren spat as she neared Camila.
Everyone knew not to mess with Lauren or anyone that she was hanging with.
Camila shook her head, turning her head, almost burying herself into the lockers, but she could feel it, she could feel her presence behind her.
"Listen here, you little dwarf. If you don't-"
