Chapter 12

Ian's POV

I swore under my breath and jumped into the room. Sitting down on the ledge with my back to the window, I took long, deep breaths. I soon heard the unmistakable sound of sobbing. Poking my head out, I saw Alexis hunched over and her body shaking. It took all of me to not run out there and comfort her.

As I forced myself to go over what just happened, the anger and hurt quickly resurfaced and I clenched my fists tighter, digging my nails into my palms. Then, I walked out into the corridor. Kate and Jenny were at the end of the corridor, their eyes wide and staring at me. I stalked on, ignoring them and slammed my door closed.

   What a bitch.

Falling onto my bed, I looked up at the glow-in-the-dark stars. I resisted the urge to scream, and stood up. I punched the wall a couple of times and then sat down, running my fingers through my hair.

How could she even do that? I tell her things that I would never tell anyone else and what does she do?

"Oh, I can't take you with the whole street-fighting thing," I mimicked out loud in a high pitched voice.

I punched the wall again and then winced a little, realizing that my knuckles were already bruised. A knock on the door distracted me from the slight burn on my hands.

   "Go away," I growled.

The door opened anyways and Alexis poked her head in. Her gaze immediately fell to my knuckles and her eyes went wide.

"What part of 'go away' do you not fucking comprehend?" I snapped.

She flinched and closed the door, not saying a word. A couple of seconds later, she walked back in with a first aid box and sat next to me on the bed, getting the dressing ready.

"I don't want your help," I almost shouted.

"Ian, you're hurt," she said softly, not taking her eyes off the dressing.

"Guess whose fault that is?" I snarled

She closed her eyes briefly and clenched her fists on her lap. Opening her eyes, she laid out the dressing on the bed and then stood up. Before leaving, she paused and murmured something softly, but I caught it.

   "I'm really sorry,"

I sighed and then cleaned and dressed my wounds.

Why does she care even after we had a fight?

I cleared my head and decided not to dwell on it. At this point, she wasn't even worth the space in my mind. Turning off the lights, I fell into an uneasy sleep.

I woke up early the next morning even though it was the weekend. After brushing my teeth and hopping in for a shower, I quickly threw on some clothes and jogged downstairs, attempting to calm the disarray my hair was currently in.

The living room was a mess of popcorn and blankets, and I could hear talking and laughing in the kitchen. Quickly poking my head in, I saw Jenny, Kate, Alexis, my mom, and Alexis's mom seated there and having a cheery breakfast. Ivan must have still been sleeping. I sighed and grabbed an apple from the living room and then left for my morning shift at Kool Kafé.
