Lucy (POV)

"Jace I wanted to ask you," I fiddle constantly with my thumbs and bite my bottom lip in nervousness. "What are we?" I'm curious to what he'll say, he's made love to me, and we already act like a couple. He's been acting all weird since I got into the car. It was like he wasn't really there. But I need this. I need to know where we are.

His next word tho, is one that I didn't expect.

"No." His voice void of any emotion. I was shocked to say the least. And seconds after I felt it. My heart shattering. It was already bruised from previous events with my sister. I thought I was hurt then, but it doesn't even compare to how I feel now.

"What?" I ask in confusion. I really meant 'why' but I sort of still in shock.
"No." He repeats. I bow my head, training my eyes on the table, feeling tears prick at the corners of my eyes. He then leaves. And thats when it hits me. He left me. He just left, so easily, just up and went. This never meant anything to him. He probably just wanted a good fuck. Well he got what he wanted. God I'm such a slut. By now tears are streaming down my face.

I sit there, becoming an empty shell. It's not until Maria comes back that I realized how long I've been here. She places my food on the table and takes Jace seat across from me. Jace. "Oh dearie, what happened?" Sniffling I couldn't bear to tell her that the boy who she thinks of as her son just broke my heart. "N-nothing." I stutter pathetically. Sighing she reaches over the table and wipes my tears. "Hun I don't know you very well yet, but I can tell that you are a strong girl. And whatever he did was unacceptable. Just tell me so I finally have a reason to kick his ass." I couldn't help but laugh at the last part, even though it came out broken. "H-he just broke m-me." I couldn't help the sobs and the hiccups. Taking a deep breath I continued in a shaky voice. " I asked him what we are because he basically act like a couple so I just wanted to know. I shouldn't have asked, his face, oh lord his face. He masked his feelings. From me. And he refused to be a couple. And then he left."

She purses her lips and shook her head in disapproval. "That idiot. Listen Lucy, I know how you are feeling, trust me, Levi did the exact same thing to me years ago. But let me tell you this Jace has never brought anyone here before. Not even his brother knows of this place. He really cares about you, I've never seen him smile or be so happy before. And I'm not telling you to forgive him right away or at all, but please consider it. He's had it rough and something tells me that he did it to protect you." I look at her with a confused expression. Is this lady crazy? Sighing she explains. "He blames himself for what happened in the past, although it's not his fault. He believes he is a danger to those around him."

I was shocked at this revelation. What does that mean. "What happened?"
She shakes her head. "He needs to tell you that himself. But I swear that boy needs to get some sense beat into him first." I chuckled at that.
"Now eat something." Shaking my head I tell her that I'll take it to go. I've lost my appetite.
Nodding she goes to get a take out box.

When she comes back she packs my food away, and as I'm about to reach in my pocket to pay her she stops me. "He's already payed for it." I couldn't help the shocked look on my face. Now I'm more confused. Signing I nodded mumbling a quick 'ok'. I call Connor.

"Hey Luce." Just his voice sends a wash of comfort over me and an involuntary sob escapes me. "Luce? Lucy? What's wrong? Where are you?" The panic in his voice sends me on edge a bit. I take a deep breath. "Hey Con I'm can you pick me up?"
"Yes of course. Where are you?"
"I'll send you my location."
"Ok, see you soon."
"Ok bye." I mumble
I leave the diner, but not before giving Levi and Maria a quick hug. Not even his brother knows about this place. There must be a reason for that, so I walk a little ways down before sending Connor my location.

The sun beats down on me from above and I nearly collapse when I see Connors car come into view.

Jace (POV)

Fuck fuck fuck. Why did I leave her there. She doesn't have a ride. I'm her ride. After I left I came back to the appartement and I just lost it. I was so angry with myself I didn't know what I was doing. The whole apartment was trashed. Broken glass was everywhere from the cups i threw, the couch was flipped over, I even trashed my own room.

The only place left untouched was her room. She'll never forgive me for this. Tears now flowed freely from my bloodshot eyes as I went into her room. It smelled like her. Her room. Sobs now escaped my shaking body as I had a breakdown on her floor.

I used to have nightmares, they were so horrible. I wouldn't sleep for weeks because of them, but since Lucy I've had the best sleep I've had in years. She makes me smile and laugh. She makes me happy. It seems that even in this short time she has become the center of my world. She's best friends with my brother, she lives with me, she owns my heart. And She doesn't even know how much I care for her. Because you never tell her dumbass. Sighing I quickly got up off my knees.

I need time to think of how I'm going to make it up to her. I'm such an ass, it's just that I panicked. What if, what happened to my sister happens to her? It was my fault. I'm a walking magnet for disasters. What if my mother find us? She's been searching since that day. She wants revenge. I can't get Lucy in the middle of this. I couldn't stand to see her hurt like that. I'm protecting her.

Walking out of her room I make my down to the garage. I then go to pick up and change some papers. On my was to the kitchen, grabbing a pen and a piece of paper on the counter. I began writing. Tears welled in my eyes as I told her everything well almost. I left out a few parts of the story with my sister. After signing it off I went to get the papers I had gotten on my way here. I gave everything to her. She deserves it. I need to protect her.

The ping of my phone went off telling me I got a message:

I don't know about you guys but I wouldn't mind being given a free car and an apartment.

Also his mom sounds like a real psycho.
