Chapter 11: Two Goodbyes

Grace's POV

I open my eyes as I see sunlight coming through the curtains. I turn around and see Kai sleeping and remembering what happened last night. It had been a while since the both of us had sex so I guess it was what we needed. I check the time and it is currently 7:04 a.m. And next to the clock is the ascendant. The thought of taking the ascendent comes to my mind but I quickly shake it off because that would mean that I just used Kai for the ascendent. But then I could go home, and no one would have to die if Kai escapes.

I quickly get out of bed and put on some clothes. I take the ascendent and the dagger with Bonnie's blood on it. I exit Kai's room and go to my room to take a quick shower since I will be leaving today. After I shower I put on some high-waisted shorts that went above my knee by like 3 inches and then a striped pink and black tank top, and I paired them with my favorite Nike Air-Force 1's. I check the time and it's already 8:30 a.m, that should give me enough time to leave and hide somewhere until it's 12:28.

But first I put the ascendant and the dagger in a small bag and I cloak the bag, just in case Kai sees me. As soon as I exit my room, I bump my head into someone's chest, and obviously it's Kai that I bump into.

"Hey, I was just gonna see you." He smiles, and I immediately regret the decision to leave him but I have to.

"Well, you've seen me." I say nervously, I was never a good liar. He then steps up closer to me.

"Are you okay?" He asks as he steps closer to me.

"Yup, all good here." I respond too fast as I nod. "I should probably make breakfast or something." I say as I try to leave.

"I know you took the ascendant and the dagger." I hear Kai say, and my heart immediately drops.

"What're you talking about? I don't even know where the ascendant is." I say as I turn around, even more nervous to face him. He then starts to take a few steps closer to me.

"It's okay, I'm not gonna hurt you, Grace." He says as he caresses my cheek and I could feel my heart leaping out of my chest. "I just want to know why you took it." He says as he looks deeply into my eyes.

And as I was about to respond, he takes out a syringe of vervain and injects it into my neck. And I black out.

I slowly open my eyes as I try sit up. Once my vision starts to become more clear, I realize I'm in the cellar. As I rub my eyes I can hear the chains on my wrists clinging against each other as I feel the burning sensation of the vervain on them.

"How was your nap?" I hear Kai's voice as I look at him through the little window on the cellar door. In response, I groan in pain as I try to move.

"What time is it?" I ask as I feel the sweat on my foreheads

"12:00." He responds calmly.

"Kai you have to let me out please." I beg as I realize we have about two hours until the eclipse.

"No can do, missy." He says as he unlocks the cellar door and sits across from me. "I don't know if you've noticed, but, you've done bad things."

"I only stole the ascendant and the dagger because I can't let you out." I explain. "It's what Bonnie would've wanted." I mumble the last part.

"What was that?" He says as he grabs both my shoulders and starts to siphon me.

"Ow!" I scream. "Kai stop!" I groan in pain.

"What did you say?" He says through gritted teeth.

"It's what Bonnie would've wanted!" I quickly say so he could stop, and he did. "It's what, Bonnie... would've wanted." I say as I try to control my breathing.
