“Sure, I guess we can add that song to the playlist. Where were you thinking of putting it?” He asked as he looked at the piece of paper with the song list on it.
“Middle, I guess. We definitely want to begin and end with originals because that is what the fans come to hear.”
Grayson looked at Titus for a few seconds before nodding his head in agreement. Titus is the band’s manager and he hasn’t steered them wrong these past four years so he probably wouldn’t start now. The band is called Mystical Misfits, and it consists of five guys, Grayson who plays keyboard, sings and writes the majority of the band’s songs; Neville who plays lead guitar and sings; Alistair who plays bass and sings; Remy who plays guitar, and Zach who plays drums.
This is going to be the band’s first headlining tour and everyone is super excited. They’ve been the opening act of several artists, but they have finally made a name for themselves and Titus thinks they will do just fine as the headline.
The last couple of months they have been trying to figure out what band they wanted to invite on their tour. They finally decided on a fairly new female band, Pretty Never, because they have both an original sound and their songs actually mean something. Titus thought they would fit in great with the band’s style of music.
It almost didn’t happen because they had been offered to open for another band that is much larger than the Mystical Misfits. Titus said the manager wasn’t quite sure if she wanted to go out on tour with the other band because their fan base is a little different than what Pretty Never is looking for and used to.
The members in Pretty Never are all under 18 but extremely talented. Mystical Misfits’ members aren’t that much older, just a few years. With the exception of Neville who is 20, the other members are all 19. That means their fan base is fairly young, tweens to mid-twenties.
The guys met by chance really. They were all in different high schools in Philadelphia so they really didn’t know each other. If it hadn’t been the showcase for up and coming artists, they probably would have never met and they’d each be trying to figure out what they want to do with their lives.
Their meeting was kismet, and the chemistry was off the charts. As soon as they sat down to play together they all knew they found what they had been looking for. In the beginning they played at malls around the city trying to attract anyone who would listen to them. On one of their performances they met Titus, who had a relationship with the label that eventually signed the band. It was Titus’ sister’s label and she was looking for a fresh young act to sign.
Titus got them in the studio and put together a demo to present to the label execs. He said it only took one song for them to make a decision. Soon after, the band was signed and starting their first album. It took almost a year to get everything complete and ready to present to radio stations. The five of them couldn’t decide on what song they wanted to release first. Titus ended up making that decision for them.
The first song was called Without Us and pretty much put them on the map. Both the song and video got loads of airplay. It was nominated for a couple of awards but didn’t win. The guys were just elated at the fact that people liked it enough to nominate it. They were surprised that people were actually listening to it.
That was about four years ago. Since then they have released about six songs and videos. Two of which have come from their second album, Back Again, which was released a few months ago and is doing very well on the charts; hence the name of the tour, Back Again.
Their schedules have been so hectic it makes having any kind of relationship almost impossible. Alistair is the only one of them who has had a steady girlfriend, and that is only because they knew each other before and he trusts her. She’s a nice girl and very supportive of Alistair which is great.
