-CHAPTER 1--KAI-
The little, bronze bell dings in annoyance as it signals customer after customer coming through the door. A boy pours bundles of steaming noodles into bowls handing them to the customers from behind the counter. He smiles and waves to each customer he hands a bowl to. His smile warm like fire. As is his hair, a fiery, bright orange. Odd, seeing as everyone in this small, rural village have either dark brown or black hair entirely. To go with his unique orange hair he also has bright, acid-green eyes. He has never really cared though, it's always been like this for him. Always been... different. But he tries his best to get through life and be normal like the rest of them. Tries his best to ignore the insults and people talking behind his back. He never sought answers, just accepted.
"Thanks for the noodles, Kai." Kai runs a hand through his red hair and waves goodbye to his only friend, Tobias. The bell dings as someone enters, Kai looks up to tell them they're closing but what he sees when he raises his bright eyes is a small girl. She looks just like him. Kai has never seen anyone that looks like him in his entire 17 years of living. As Kai goes to speak the girl raises a finger to her lips and shushes him. He raises an eyebrow and she approaches the counter cautiously. She looks young and her clothes are torn and dirty.
"A-are you lost? Where are your parents?" Kai makes sure not to startle her, speaking quietly as he watches her in amazement.
"I can't stay long they-they are coming. I think they are here now." She points to the door, her long, red hair sways with the abrupt movement.
"Who's coming for you?"
"You're Kai, right?" Her eyes widen as she leans on the counter, "You must be, with your hair and eyes."
"Y-yeah, I am." Kai examines the girl, she looks terrified the acid green tone of her eyes seems to hold rage and fear inside.
"I have to tell you something, Kai you're one of them, like me! Just don't make the same mistake I did!" She screams as men wearing shiny, white armor with black plastic where the metal parts for movement, walk through the door. White masks also cover their face and a contraption of black tubing and metal is attached to their backs. It's as if they're to good to breathe the air here, like they are better than everyone. In that moment, Kai knew they weren't like the people here. He knew that they were better than us. They looked like they were from another time... another place.
"NO!Don't let them take me! KAI PLEASE!!" The girls eyes are as wide as saucepans. She screams and screeches as the bell dings and more armored men march into the room. There are ten of them. Ten armored, futuristic men coming to take down one small girl.
"Leave her alone!" Kai jumps over the counter and grabs the girls hand but he jolts it away. Her skin is as hot as fire. Kai stares at his red palm.
"I'm sorry! I didn't mean to hurt you, Kai you have to go before you do something you regret, before-before I hurt you Kai!" She screams through tears. Kai's father emerges through a door in the small kitchen. He runs up to Kai and grabs him before Kai can jump over the counter and attack the people in white.
"Let them do their job, Kai," His father whispers as he holds Kai with both arms. Kai tries to turn around, tries to look his father in the eyes and tell him this isn't right but his Father holds him to tight. It's all a blur and suddenly Aunt Choi is by his side, his Mother's sister. Tears are streaming down her cheeks as she chokes reassurance. Kai doesn't care what his father says. He struggles to escape his father's firm grasp, Kai can't just let them take her. He watches in horror as they point a contraption at her. They pull a trigger and something tiny flies fast out of it Kai hardly even sees it. It makes Kai feel weird and he screams as the girl gets shot. Yet, she just stands there in the middle of the room staring at Kai as tears fill the acid green of her eyes. Kai breaks free and runs for her. He hears his Father and Aunt yell as he is knocked down by a searing pain in his right leg. The last thing he sees is the men grabbing the girl and dragging her out as she screams. He must've passed out after that because he remembers seeing the girl lighting the town fountain outside on fire...with her bare hands.
