I'm not the best on making Merida sound Scottish, so I'm just speaking normal! Deal with it.
Merida's POV
I pulled my quiver out from the old rotting oak tree. My arrows already safely inside of it, sharpened to perfection. My bow was hidden under one of the trees old roots, pulling it out I brushed the dirt off of it.
"What's brought you back here Merida?" the voice of my mum said from behind me.
"Everything." I reply, sliding the quiver over my shoulder I gripped the bow and faced my mum. Strands of my red hair fell into my face, so I just blew them away.
"I know this is a hard decision. But you have to choose." my mum told me, sympathy filled her eyes.
"Have you ever had to make a decision like this?" I asked her sharply.
"Not in a long time." she sounded dazed, like she was remembering what she did.
"I need to leave. I'll be back soon mum." I told her as I whistled for my black Clydesdale named Angus to arrive.
"What will I tell your father then? Or your brothers?" she asked me.
"Tell dad that I'm going to be shooting. Tell Hamish, Hubert and Harris that they can have my dessert. I probably won't be back until after you guys have finished supper." I told her as I hopped into Angus' back; we started to trod away.
"Just be safe!" she called after me.
I turned Angus around to face her. "I always am." and with that said we galloped away, into the forest.
The trees blurred together creating a green, black, brown and blue blur. I pulled an arrow out of the quiver and loaded it into my bow, pulling the string back I looked at my target and let the string go. The arrow launched forward and hit the bullseye, Angus didn't stop running and I quickly reloaded another arrow. As he jumped over a rotting log with a thick layer of moss I took aim and released the string. Another bullseye, I smiled and ducked as a tree branch came in my way.
"Good to know I haven't lost my touch. Right Angus?" I held onto his mane as he jumped over another log.
But he landed on his back hooves wrong and that caused him to fall to the ground. I got flung off his back and into a thorn bush. I stumbled out to see Angus limping, he may have broken one of his legs.
I began to pluck the thorns out of my hair, chuckling humorlessly. "That was a close one. Luckily the Lords won't be here until tomorrow."
Angus just huffed painfully in response. I heard whispers behind me, where have I heard them before? My hands dropped to my side, my right hand gripping my bow as my quiver now hung on my waist. Turning around I saw a Willow-O'-The-Wisp. Still as beautiful as I can remember from a few years ago.
"Angus we sh-" I never got to finish because something sharp plunged into my back.
I screamed in pain and watched as Angus ran away in fright, trying not to put any weight on his hurt leg. I looked over my shoulder to see one of the newcomers that was causing trouble. I didn't get time to do anything because he stabbed me again in the stomach.
Everything went dark after that.
Third Person POV
Back at the castle, Angus has just ridden in with no rider. King Fergus and Queen Elinor feared the worst and sent men out to go find their daughter. With King Fergus in the lead they all mounted up on horses and rode into the forest. By the time they had arrived at the scene where Merida was attacked it was too late. The attacker was long gone, along with Merida's life.
"Merida..." King Fergus said, his voice filled with sorrow. This was a sad day for Dunbroch. It was the day they lost their princess.
It was the day Merida died.
