1. The First Day

First day of the year, great. I've never actually gone to public school though, all through my childhood, my mother taught my older siblings and I, my lessons in the morning and my siblings in the afternoon. Now I'm staying with my Aunt and Uncle in Beverly Hills. On the opposite side of the world. Home was across a country, then the Atlantic, nearly a day long flight. There was no coming back from this.

When I bought that ticket to escape my parents house in the country side of Ireland, I knew there was no coming back from it.

I did it anyway. I wanted to escape from my family's name. After William got arrested, I took the teasing and the ruthless questions about my brothers arrest.

Guess that's what happens when he drives drunk and kills four people with the bumper of his car. Fucking idiot.

"Hero? Are you okay?" My cousin, Elaina asks. She looked like her Mom, who was twins with my own mother. Together, Elaina and I look as if we could be twins even though we're cousins.

I nod and look up from my phone, I had completely zoned out. I nod again, confirming that I really am okay and she shuts her locker.

"Come on, Ms. Basiley's english is on the other side of the building." She tells me and I nod, following her with my books in my arms.

I look back down to my class list and frown, I have to find my way around this bloody high school with nearly zero help. The kids here aren't as nice as my friends back home were. Here, they're blunt and arrogant, almost to the point of being down right rude.

The walk to the other side of the building nearly waste all of the passing time we're given and we arrive to the classroom with only a minute to spare.

I take a seat in the farthest corner of the classroom and set my books on my desk. Elaina or Lani as her parents call her, is in the front, just like she always is. I love her, but she's perfect in everything she does. She's the poster child for the damn Girl Scouts.

I lean back in my chair and try to drown out the sounds of my classmates whispers, but a voice whispering toward me breaks me from my thoughts.

"Hey. Are you new here?" The girl ask. She has blonde hair and blue eyes, bright ocean blue eyes. I nod.

"I'm Kelly." She whispers and keeps her head low.

"Hero." I reply, trying to end the conversation before anything starts.

"Like a superhero?" She replies and I give her a soft smirk, then nod.

"So why'd you move to L.A?" She asks and I don't even try responding. I can't answer that. I don't want her to know. She can't know,"Sorry if it's a touchy topic."

"Family drama back home. Didn't want the label, I just don't like talking about it." I reply and pull out my notebook to start taking notes.

She sighs and I nod, blocking her out and focusing directly on class.

Thirty minutes go by and the normal high school setting hurts my head. I'm so used to simple 1 on 1 clases. I follow Lani out of the class and the Kelly chick pushes past me.

Holy shit. That ass...

The loud speaker turns on and a voice begins to announce what's going on at West Beverly this week. Kelly stops in front of the window where the announcements are coming from and rolls her eyes as she knocks on the glass. I approach her slowly.

"You okay?"

She turns to me and stops knocking, "Yeah, but David is begin an asshole so I'm trying to annoy him."

"Boyfriend?" I reply, as I look in the window and see a younger boy with spiked hair drenched in gel.

"Worse, step-brother." She replies and we walk away from the glass. I don't even realize it until after I followed Kelly up the stairs and down the hall, but I ditched Elaina.

"So, are kids always so asshole-y here?" I ask as I clutch my binder in one hand.

"No, everyone's just pissy that West Beverly is taking on all the students at East Beverly. Their school is closing soon." She replies and stops in front of her locker.

"Hey, um, before you go, are you busy tonight? My friends and I are meeting at a diner a few blocks away. The Peach Pit."

I shake my head, "No. I'm not busy. Can you text me the address?"

She nods and pulls out her phone, "What's your number?"

I pull out my own phone, an IPhone 8, then show her my number, she types it in, then points her phone up at me.

"I need a contact photo, smile!" She says and I smile, not showing teeth.

She text me the address to the diner and save it, putting her name in on the contact, I save the selfie she sent with the address and add it to her contact.

"See you around?" She asks and I nod.

"Yeah."

She's hot. Really hot. Day one and I already met a cute girl. Just my luck.

Lani is irked that I ditched her for the pretty girl.

"Hero, you wandered off with a random girl on the first day. I'm not letting you get my ex-boyfriends reputation of the player, that's not happening." She tells me and we stop next to our lockers, I grab my things for my next class and Lani leads me to it, leaving me at the class to fend for myself.

I take my seat in the back of the room and set my stuff on the top of the desk. A few seconds pass as my gaze is locked on the door, i watch Eden, my cousin enter the room. She sits down in the desk next to me.

"Lani's fucking pissed at you dude." She whispers and laughs softly. I roll my eyes.

"Yeah, well Lani's stuck-up." I reply and start taking notes at the class starts.

Eden was nothing like Lani. She snuck out and partied a lot. She also woke up in random guy's beds too. She's not a slut, but she isn't a sweet catholic child like Lani, who never went to party's, she preferred staying in and writing Harry Styles smut on some website called Wattpad.

I've read some of it, and it's NSFS, or Not Safe For School. If only her parents knew their perfect, innocent daughter was writing porn about a celebrity and posting it on the Internet.

The final bell rings and I meet up with Eden and Lani by their shared convertible.

"I'm driving, get in losers." Eden says and jumps in without even opening the door. I climb into the back and pull out my phone. Kelly texted me the time to meet them there, 4:30.

"Hey, can you guys drop me off somewhere?" I ask.

"Where?" Eden replies as she backs out of the parking lot.

"The Peach Pit."
