After class, Caspar made a beeline over to Miles.

"Okay, let's go someplace less crowded so you can show me what ya found," he said, sounding excited. "We should have enough time before detention."

"Our cabin?" Miles suggested.

But Caspar shook his head. "I'm not sure we should tell Kane about this yet. Nothing personal to him, but the bloke doesn't keep secrets very well."

Miles nodded. "Okay, then where?"

"I don't know," replied Caspar, deep in thought. "You go get the rest of the group and meet me back here."

"The rest of the group?"

"Yeah," Caspar explained. "Doc will believe four of us over two. Increases our chance."

"Sounds good," Miles agreed. "And besides, we're a team now."

"Right," Caspar said, smirking a little. "Good. Off with you. I'll keep thinking of a place."

Five minutes later, Miles, Caspar, Jason, and Lilly were crowded around in a tight circle under a tree outside the academy.

"I still think this is ridiculous," Lilly was saying. She looked at Miles. "You actually found something?"

Miles nodded. "Yeah. Or well, I think. But we still need somewhere private to open the box I found. Who knows what's inside?"

"Which is exactly why we shouldn't open it," Jason said. "I mean, shouldn't we just let the teachers handle this?"

Caspar shook his head. "In case you haven't noticed mate, our teacher is the one who might be working with Necron. So we have to know for sure who we can trust."

"I agree with Jason," said Lilly. "We're here to learn, not play Hardy Brothers."

"This is mad!" Caspar exclaimed, leaning back against a tree. "We have our evidence, and no one wants to actually see what it is!"

"I'm not saying I'm not curious," admitted Jason. "But I think we're digging ourselves into a hole here. You already have detention, and it could get much worse than that."

"Don't forget they might even kick me out," Caspar winked.

Lilly sighed and looked at Miles, who had been thinking of something to add to the conversation. "What do you think?"

"Look, you might be right. It could be nothing. But I think we at least have to see what is in the box I found," Miles reasoned.

Jason and Lilly exchanged a glance, and they both nodded slowly.

"Brilliant!" Caspar said. "So, back to square one then. Where do we open this thing?"

"I..." Lilly started, then hesitated. "If we're really going to do this, then I think I know of the perfect place."

"We're listening," Miles encouraged.

"What if we open it in that room where we found Spirit?" Lilly suggested. "There was a couch, chairs, and a table in there, and it all had cobwebs, like nobody had ever used the room. If we open it in there, we won't be disturbed."

"There was a table and a couch in there?" Jason asked.

"Yeah, didn't you see it?"

Jason, Miles, and Caspar all shook their heads.

"Must've missed it," Caspar mused. "I was actually pretty focused on the bloody ghost."

Miles, Jason, and Lilly all laughed. Miles didn't remember the last time he had laughed. It was a funny feeling, like he had forgotten all about laughter. Like he had gotten so wrapped up in the whole life endangerment thing that having fun with anything was just out of the question.
