JACK HUGHES came from a family that played hockey. Both parents having experience in the sport. His mother being a former hockey player for the US women's national team and his father playing for college. Jack played the sport for as long as he could remember. Whether it was him playing with his two other siblings outside in the handmade rink or it was him playing inside with a plastic hockey stick and puck.

The boy lived and breathed hockey. When he called out his family to the kitchen to open the letter sent from Springfield, Minnesota he felt his heart hammering in his chest. He impatiently waited for his family to arrive to the rather large space. Once he saw everyone was there he started to pry open the letter. Pieces of paper fell onto the floor and soon Jack was reading off the words on the white sheet of paper. His voice got louder and when the the word 'except' came out of his mouth the Hughes all starting jumping up and down.

Jack could easily say he's never been that happy in his life. Not even the time he was given the hockey stick he begged his parents to get him for months could top that moment. He didn't think anything ever would.

When he went to school the very next day all he could think about was that letter. He had a huge grin permanently etched on his face for the whole day. Girls swooning over him in the halls and guys wishing they were him. He felt as if he was on top of the world.

Hockey. Hockey was one thing no one would ever be able to take away from him. Something that made him feel special. It was something he loved with every particle in his body and something he always will love.

Love was a strong word for the boy and even he could say he loved the sport. Never in his entire being has he ever told anyone out of his family that he loved them. Sure he had girlfriends here and there not ever has he said the 'L' word to them nor does he believe he will until he's older. Right now his number one priority was hockey.

No one could deny the talent the young boy had in hockey. He had his life ahead of him and nothing would stop him from achieving the goals he had from the start not even love.
