EVIE STEPPED OVER A FAllen branch, and stared at the bugs crawling over it with disgust. She was walking to the cottage where her mother poisoned the "fairest of them all" to meet Hayden. When she got to the washed-out-white home, she did a knock sequence and the door opened on its own. When she stepped inside, she saw the fire-haired boy sitting at the little table, reading tarot cards. She leaned on the doorframe.
"I didn't know you read people's future," Evie raised an eyebrow.
"How else am I supposed to decide when people die," Hayden replied, looking up, and swiping the cards into a pile and stuffing it into his sleeve. "I may have also gotten a lesson or two from Dr.Facilier. Come have a seat." He waved his hand, and a chair moved back. Despite the gesture, Evie still decided to pull out a chair for herself.
"I poisoned him for you. One hundred years of deep sleep. Not even a true love's kiss could wake him up. Is Dizzy safe like you promised?" In response, Hayden held his hand palm-up, and the smoke swirled again, showing Dizzy experimenting with new dye colors. The princess sighed in relief.
"I have another proposition," Hayden closed his hand, and all the smoke disappeared. "I know you enjoyed sneaking around and lying. You enjoyed being truly evil." With that accusation, Evie opened her mouth to defend herself, but found that she couldn't. So she hung her head in shame and nodded. "Don't you see the big picture. Evil could rule once and for all, it's all up to you. Remember your mother, rotting in that prison. Remember Dizzy, who will never know what ice cream tastes like. And all those children who will never see the sun. You have to take down the barrier once and for all." With each word said, his voice got more and more bitter. Evie nodded her head, guilt eating out her heart.
"Okay, what do you propose I do?"
"I propose that you don't tell anyone. Especially not Mal, since she's my half-sister and all. But I will give you an ally, and a friend to help you and ensure your success." The demi-god stood up, and a swirl of smoke appeared behind him. A girl her age stepped out of it and shot daggers at him.
"Took you long enough, Hayden," the frizzy haired girl drawled. Hayden ignored her.
"Claudia, this is Evie, your acquaintance. Evie, this is Claudia Frollo." Claudia turned to her and smiled the biggest and fakest she could. Evie raised an eyebrow and rolled her eyes, using a hand to toss blue locks behind her shoulder.
"Well ladies, I better get going, have a good time getting that wand and scepter," with that, the demi-god left in a wall of smoke again. Claudia turned her full attention the the bluenette.
"Well then, friend, we should get going, before anyone gets suspicious of your absence," she smirked. Evie led the way out of the cottage and into the forest, to Auradon Prep, where they would form a plan.
