My lungs felt like they could give out at any time. My legs were sore from running through the dense, and freezing cold forest. The fog hugging the ground and musky ground making hard to see where my next step would be. It gave me an even eerier feeling. Every so often I'd slow down a bit, and that's when I can hear whatever it is chasing me, get closer. To say I was scared was an understatement. A low menacing growl could be heard from behind me, rumbling through the ground. I decided to pick up the pace, even though I was dreadfully tired and refraining from blacking out at any moment.
Then I saw it.
The House.
With the new-found hope I sprinted faster towards the familiar building. Though it didn't feel like I was going any faster. The monstrous creature chasing me kept up with my pace, always 10 feet behind me. Every time that I did try to look back at it, it got even closer.
As I finally reached the gate of the house, I hastily jumped over the collapsed part of it and ran to the front door. Without thinking twice I barged in and slammed it shut, trying to recollect my breath whilst locking the door. I ran through the small, and welcoming kitchen to the stairs that lead up. Running up them, I turned left once I reached the top and into the bathroom, closing that door as well. I locked that door and slowly turned to the small window in the room. Walking over to it with caution.
As I looked out the window I tried looking for the creature, searching from a distance so it wasn't obvious as to where I was. Once I found where it was, I studied it's movements. It stalked low to the ground, it's arms practically dragging unless it starts crawling on all fours. It looked almost human, but it's face and proportions told a different story. It was slim, as if it hadn't eaten in months. It's face was just as bony and slim, it's eyes and mouth were just voids, but with sharp teeth protruding from the mouth. It's spine was sticking out, and it's skin was so tight and dull.
It seemed to be circling in front of the house, making it to one end of the fence and back to the other.
Was it really waiting? What does it want from me? I panicked inwardly.
Just after I thought my breathing had settled, I started hyperventilating. Fear over taking my mind after the adrenaline I had for running had finally subsided. I could only think of the worst that could happen.
I started looking around the bathroom for anything I could use to defend against or distract the thing outside. I looked around frantically, opening drawers and cabinets, but making sure I didn't make much noise.
All I found was a pair of scissors, glass jars and bottles, and a few other varies items. I guess I could make some noise or something by throwing these out the windows..? God I hope something works.
After looking back out the window to make sure the creature was still there, I made my way slowly to the bathroom door, and then out into the hallway. Walking to the right of the stairs I go to the room by turning another right. Walking to the window that's now facing the front of the house I opened it with caution, then moved out of view from ground level. Waiting a moment, then continuing, I looked to see if I could throw a jar farther than the small dirt path in front of the beaten-down fence.
Stepping back from the window, in the position to throw the jar with my right arm, I made sure it wasn't looking up towards the second floor and then threw it. It made it to the small tree line with a crashing-shattered sound. Then crouching down and picking up the scissors, getting ready to throw them too.
Looking back out the window in the throwing position I was in earlier, watching to see where the monster went. And it seemed that throwing the jar did distract it, so I threw the scissors at the same area as the jar. Hopping it would hit the creature. Ducking back down, not waiting to see where the scissors landed, I heard a blood curdling screech. Though it sounded far, it still pierced my ears.
I swiftly crawled back to the bathroom and locked the door again, the only thing I could hear was my heart banging in my head. Then I heard it.
The sound of something heavily climbing the side of the house where I threw stuff out the window. Did I forget to close the window? It was too late to check now. As I heard the climbing stop I heard a thump hit the carpeted floor. It was now in the house.
My heart beat even faster, which I thought would be impossible. I could barely hear, but what I was able to hear were the foot steps of the monster, it was getting closer. I wanted to scream, or cry, anything! But I didn't know if it knew where I was. I didn't know how long I was listening to it walk around but finally it stopped. Right in front of the bathroom door.
It all happened so fast, though it started so slowly. It scratched on the, long, stride-ful, scratches on the outside of the door. Then it stopped for another moment. Out of no where, almost, it broke off the door knob on it's side of the door, then starting to stab its claws through the door.
I had backed up to the farthest wall at this point. I looked to the small window that was in the bathroom, but I'd rather die by the hands of this.. this thing, then by jumping out of the window.
I looked back at the door, by this point it had made a large hole in the door, clawing at it, trying to get to the door knob on my side of the door. I didn't want to watch anymore. I thought as it finally opened the door fully.
I closed my eyes, waiting for this to end. All of a sudden I felt a sharp pain in my neck and I jolted my eyes open.
The room was dark and I was sitting up, a cold sweat all over my body. My throat uncomfortably dry. I quickly glanced around my room. I didn't want to get up, my entire body was shaking insanely.
Was it really... just some stupid dream?
