you're running on borrowed sadness, my dear

just spent the afternoon and evening together with you. so much joy in seeing a smile crease your face as you look at me smiling back. even with the burden of lifeless news on your back I still marvel at how strong you are and how tall you stand.

sadness for another time, I say, and give you my best smile. you take it, and look me in the eye as you return it.

listening to you talk; I should always miss it even though I sometimes forget what you sound like, the reverbs and undertones falling flat when you give them to a screen. I love you, I realize for the umpteenth time. although never in the way you needed me to, I still do, and I will always cherish the way you cherish me.

sleep well, love, and remember me.
