As I looked up at my attacker, I felt another pang in my stomach. His eyes stared into me, not seeing me, or the pain he was putting me in. I winced as he gripped my wrists harder.

“Allen! Wake up! Please don’t do this. Think about the baby, our baby. He is due tomorrow. Don’t put him in danger. Snap out of this trap. Please wake up!” I screamed to him. He did not hear me. I saw it through his emotionless face. Allen stepped forward, continuing to put pressure on my wrists. The baby kicked my stomach again. My husband continued to press against me. I was soon cornered into a wall.

I started to cry. I know twenty five year olds shouldn’t be crying, but what else would one do when risking the life of themselves, and their soon to be little boy. “Allen, please let me live. Please.” I whisperred. I was balling now. My husband looked down at me, lifted his hand and slapped me. I fell to the ground. My cheek stung, and I lifted my hand to feel the print he has left on my face. I could no longer see because the tears were covering my sight. We were alone in an alleyway, just behind the old Burger King that shut down twelve years ago. Nobody was around to hear my cries; the man who hypnotized Allen had made sure of that.

All I could think about was the bearded man, the one that turned my loving husband against me. He was responsible. Just as I was thinking about him, the man turned up behind Allen, as if reading my mind, and walked over to him. He started speaking Russian to Allen, a language I didn’t know Allen spoke. Allen slowly walked away, not saying a thing, leaving me alone with the man. The man smiled, and knelt down beside me. He was missing a few teeth, and his breath smelled.

“Hello Ms. Makenzy, how your day going? I see not well, husband very abusing. You should go marriage council. I have special stuff to help head, you ok? You no look good.” The man continued to talk to me, but I stopped paying attention.

“I am feeling fine, thank you.” I said. I tried to stand, but my stomach got in the way. After a few minutes of trying, I got up, and started to walk towards the hospital five blocks away. The man started laughing crazily behind me.

In a normal accent, he started to speak. “They said you were impossible. They said you would not listen, but I will make you. You will never forget today, the day your Allen jumps off a building. In Fifteen years, your child will choke and die in your arms. Maybe then you will pay attention to our procedures.” I turned around, and watched in horror as Allen climbed to the top of the building. The daze in his eyes was seen from down here.

My husband looked down at me when he reached the top. I ran to the spot he was destined to fall to. “Allen, please, this man hypnotized you to die. Please don’t die on me. On your son. Please.” He continued walking towards the edge. He stopped at the last minute possible. He looked down over the edge, waiting for the signal to jump. The bearded man smiled, his gaps were extremely large. “Please, I will do anything, save my husband.” I begged, limping over to him. He looked over at me, skeptically. He shouted some more words, and my husband backed away three steps from the ledge.

“The only thing I want from you is to see you die a slow, painful death.” He said. Then he slapped me so hard, I blanked out.
