Sonic thought about sticking around to keep tabs on Shadow, but he quickly second-guessed it. Shadow was a scary hedgehog, and Sonic already made him angry. Pushing him would probably send Sonic to his grave. He hated knowing that no matter how heroic humanity thought he was, Shadow would always be better.

Sonic hated leaving Amy there with that Faker, but Shadow is a hedgehog of mercy; he already proved that to Sonic before. If Amy begged, Shadow wouldn't kill her.

And if he did anything to her, he would bury Shadow alive.

Sonic wandered back to his house, locking the front gate and doors before stepping inside. He slumped on the couch and watched some TV, trying to take his mind off of the girl of his dreams.

And the hedgehog who was going to turn her into a nightmare.

...

Amy woke up with the sun shining on her face through her rather enormous bedroom window. She was pretty grouchy for having less sleep than normal, but she sat up and stretched. She dragged herself out of bed and slid on her pink fuzzy slippers. Opening the door, she started lazily clobbering down the steps.

Amy smelled the air. She wouldn't normally, but it smelled like sausages and eggs, and maybe even pancakes. She obviously didn't get up to make breakfast, and there was only one other person at her house.

Shadow didn't hear the pink hedgehog tiptoe down the stairs behind him. The sizzling of cracking sausages dulled his hearing senses. The aroma smelled amazing to him as well. Cooking was just another thing Shadow was good at.

He separated the breakfast evenly onto two plates, then turned to put them on the table. His initial plan was to eat it and then leave it as a thank you, but he was shocked senseless when he saw Amy Rose sitting at the bar. He wondered how long she had been there, and cursed himself for not hearing her. He can't let his guard down anymore.

"Goodmorning," Amy half yawned. She still looked so groggy, and her quills were even worse than last night. It almost made him smile.

Amy lazily rested her head on her right hand. "So, what did you make?"

Shadow was still standing in the middle of her kitchen with both plates in hand. "Sausages, eggs, and pancakes. I hope you don't mind. It was my way of saying thank you for your friendship."

Amy giggled. "You don't have to repay me for being your friend, silly." Amy sat up as Shadow placed the plate of food before her. "I want to be your friend! We can do so many fun things together!"

Shadow set his own plate down beside her, cocking his head. "Fun...? Together?"

Amy frowned. "Oh my. I didn't think you were this new." Amy picked up a sausage with her fork. "You haven't ever spent time with anyone else?"

Shadow grunted. "Does saving the world with Sonic's pitiful team count?"

Amy pouted. "Hey! I happen to be a part of that, just like you happen to be a part of that." Shadow groaned.

"I don't want to be. I don't want anything to do with him or his friends."

Amy finished the sausage and began cutting up her pancakes. "A little harsh there, Shadow."

Shadow winced but remained nonchalant. "The feeling seems mutual. I don't see a problem with it."

Amy sighed, shoving her face with the rest of her breakfast . "You have a lot to learn, Shadow The Hedgehog."
