For the first time in his life, Shadow's nonchalance dropped. For the first time in his life, Shadow experienced panic. Gut wrenching, muscle spasming panic. His breaths were short and small, his eyes diluted. What was happening?

Sonic felt panic too, but in a better way. He felt panic in a way that someone saw a golden opportunity. His heart raced, realizing that he could have another chance at a life he used to believe was long gone.

Sonic didn't hesitate. Sonic didn't stutter.

"Yes. I meant every word of it."

"No!"

Shadow couldn't let her fall into his trap. Couldn't she see how much better she was without him? "Rose, don't do this to yourself!"

But the pink hedgehog wasn't listening to him anymore. Her entire world was spinning on a loose hinge, and all she saw was him. The blue hedgehog that she had loved for so long.

The one that took her heart and stamped on it. Many, many times.

And then she saw another hedgehog. The black one. The one she never expected to treat her like she always wanted to be treated. Someone who listened to her. Someone who didn't run away as soon as she said his name.

But Shadow wasn't Sonic.

And Sonic wasn't Shadow.

Now it was Amy Rose that was feeling panic. The kind where the mind is stuck between a rock and a hard place. Or in her case, a black hedgehog and a blue one.

So which one is the correct choice?

"I... uh..." Amy couldn't find words to say. She was torn. She still loved Sonic, she knew that. But the feelings she felt for Shadow have grown just as strong. She was ready to move on. She wanted to start over, fresh, and live a life with—

"I TOLD YOU TO STAY AWAY FROM HER!"

Amy didn't notice Sonic slowly walking up to her, hand outstretched, inches from her cheek. Most likely to wipe away the tear that Amy felt rolling down it.

Shadow's gloves hand grabbed Sonic's neck from the back, throwing Sonic away from Amy. He hit the stone wall hard, Shadow huffing angrily.

Shadow did not know what was going on with him. How could he act like such an intolerable fool, just like the blue hedgehog before him.

He knew the answer was Amy, of course.

Shadow stomped over to the tree, where Sonic was recovering quickly and angrily. He was poised, in a fighting stance.

Shadow didn't plan of fighting him this time.

Shadow planned on killing him.

Sonic rushed him, and Shadow blocked it, quickly throwing an attack of his own. Sonic blocked the jab, but didn't see the uppercut. Sonic stumbled back, hand on his jaw. His vision was blurring out. He barely saw Shadow make his way towards him.

"I already told you once, Faker." Sonic, even with his incredible speed, missed Shadows lethal attack by a hair. Shadow side-eyed him horrifically. "You don't deserve her. But let me explain in simpler terms."

Shadow lunged again. Sonic dodged and prepared a counter attack, which was swiftly guarded by the black hedgehog. Shadow grabbed Sonic by the neck, pinning him to a tree. "You don't deserve anything."

Sonic wanted to retaliate, but the pressure on his neck was almost too much to bear; Shadow's grip was tightening each second. He couldn't even plead for his life.

Now everyone was experiencing the same kind of panic. Part of Shadow knew he was going to far. Part of Shadow was telling him to stop.

But another part of Shadow was only whispering to him alluringly. Another part of Shadow told him of how this moment was inevitable. Shadow forgot how good it felt to kill again.

His adrenaline spiked at the blood leaking from Sonic's mouth.

Sonic was, of course, panicking for his life. He saw the crazed look in Shadow's eyes. It had been a long time since he saw his dilated pupils. His glowing red eyes.

His wide, sinister smile.

Amy Rose was panicking for the two hedgehogs. If she was being honest with herself, Sonic deserved to be put in his place. He had deserved that for a very long time.

That place was not death.

She panicked for Shadow's loss of control. She almost couldn't believe it. She knew shadow wasn't really a bad person. Only one person worked him up to the point of insanity, and that person happened to be his victim.

Her options of changing this situation were running out. Fast.

With her time limit running out, she sprinted for Shadow, begging him to stop.

But Shadow was underwater.

Shadow was drowning in his own rage.

And he was going to take Sonic with him.
