Such Sweet Innocence

Young children

Imagining monsters

Fairies and trolls

Dreams and reality are one

Such sweet innocence

Precise smiles

Contagious laughter

Shoes on the wrong feet

Shirt on backwards

Can't button their pants

Without help

Such sweet innocence

Birthdays are magical

Myths and tales are real

What people tell you is always the truth

Never understanding the whispered voices

And hushed concerns

Such sweet innocence

One day that little boy and girl

Are no longer trusting

No longer believing

Now there is no sweet innocence

Only cold cruel cynical faces

Rude sneering voices

Unfriendly eyes

And hands that fight and hinder and push and pull

All that is left is a cloud of doubt and fear

Gone are the days of brave knights and kings and queens

Gone are the moments of friendship

Gone are the songs of joy and the dances of happiness

Gone is that sweet innocence

Such sweet innocence

Replaced by the anger and hate of a dying world

Replaced with scars and frowns instead of smiles and laughter lines.

Gone is the childhood of many and in it's place is the dark cold void of life.
