"So, you're meaning to say that these scrolls were about a Thai princess who came into Goryeo? That's absurd! I know what I've learnt in my high school, prof, and nothing about this is ever mentioned." Lisa shook her head repeatedly and continued. "What written is, Gongyang of Goryeo granted the kingdom of Ayutthaya for a visit, but we never succeeded in sending the troops." She scoffed.
Lisa was currently taking the pictures of each of the scrolls after Jisoo and I have carefully placed each into its own protective glass case. The process was a bitch though, requiring utmost care and using specialized soft rubber pliers where the scrolls have to be handled delicately like putting a diaper onto an ant. Can you imagine that? Of course, it was a seven hundred years old scrolls, therefore being extremely careful was needed. A single mistake could ruin the whole artifacts. Though we still need to prove the real age of each of the scrolls and that's where my job truly lies. Cutting a micro sized portion of each of the scrolls which will then be send to our lab in Korea to be processed. These were mostly done by archaeologist instead of me, a mere historical professor who were mostly interested in studying the historical contexts of it instead of the artifacts. Although that wasn't an option right now.
Though she seems puzzled and outright cynical at the moment, Lisa does looked rather cute with her unintended pouting. This girl have these unique charms about her that totally intrigued me to no end. When I first met her at the airport yesterday, I was stunned. She was breathtakingly gorgeous and it wasn't fair that a creature as beautiful as her exist. She made me downright jealous and drawn at at the same time. She exuded this masculine sensuality that made me question my own sexuality. More over when she took the initiative of carrying that heavy box herself. She looked damn right skinny but quite strong if I may say so. Sexy.
I'm attracted to men all my life, and this was the first time a woman, a breathtaking one at that, have a pull on me like never before. I appreciates beauty, we all do, but she was like, another different level of beauty. Just her smile alone can cure cancer, I'm sure, so bright and genuine, like sunshine. There were never a time I was mesmerized by eyes alone, until that warm chocolate doe eyes of hers, so hypnotizing. It was like, you can see galaxies in it, and she as the universe herself.
"It's as far as what I've interpreted so far." I shrugged at her outburst. "Besides, from my experience in the field, most of history is just that, a story. Many things written wasn't what entirely happened. I mean, take Japan during World War II for example. Too many things that the Japanese troops did towards its own people that was as evil and as cruel, isn't really published and taught in other countries' schools."
That left her thinking for a while silently. She paused what she was doing and looked at me.
"I guess you're right prof. Sorry." A soft look of guilt appeared in her eyes.
"It's okay. Aren't you excited anyway? This is like a totally different tale compared to what you've known all along." I smiled excitedly at her.
"Um," she paused thinking. Before continuing with, "yeah, I guess you're right." She returned me with her own excited smile then continued her work.
"Interpreting the whole thing gonna take awhile." I huffed.
"I'm sure. Too bad all these was written in that language of ancient hanja. If it's written in Pali I can help you." She shrugged while still busying herself with taking the pictures of each of the rest of the scrolls.
"Oh my god you know Pali?" That was like one of the ancient language of the world. Buddhist texts was actually written in it. It was quite a hard language to learn. Khmer, Thai, Burmese all derived from Pali.
"Yeah well, I can't really converse in it but yeah, I know how to read it. Like, I know the meaning of the alphabet but I'm not entirely sure how it really sounded. My late father, my biological one, he was an archaeologist. I'm his sole heir. One of his last wish was for me to master the language. That, and to never sell his two story villa located at Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya district, just a five minutes walk to the ruins itself." She shrugged, still busying herself. "He got an obsession with that ancient city and its history. Probably that was why he got me to learnt the language. The young kingdom actually borrowed Pali in its earlier scriptures writing."
