OMNISCIENT.
Yeoreum woke up to the abrupt and repetitive sound of her phone alarm, her eyes automatically squinting in annoyance while her hand flies over her nightstand to fish out her phone. Her eyes flutter open, looking at the screen display. She rubs her newly dazed eyes, and sits up the bed for a while. 5:47 am. Not too early, not late either.
Once she gets out of bed, Yeoreum's body just involuntarily moves to her accustomed routine in the morning. She brushes her teeth for exactly two minutes, wakes Yeonsoo up, gets herself in the bathroom and gets dressed. She heads downstairs, following a seemingly hypnotizing trail of cinnamon scented goodness.
Her mom cooked up a batch of cinnamon french toast, Yeonsoo's favorite. It seemed more so as the young kid was already munching away his fair share of bread by the dining table, and on the table next to him was Yeoreum's packed food, inside a brown paper bag.
Yeoreum always felt bad whenever she knew she couldn't stay for breakfast in the morning. She wanted to share at least a few moments with her family in the most important meal of the day, but due to her impending time restraint, she had to always be one step ahead. But strangely, she sat against the dining table for a few moments today,
giving her baby brother airplane spoonfuls of rice porridge. She smiled whenever Yeonsoo would take a hefty bite, some of the porridge sticking out of his mouth."Easy there, buddy. The porridge isn't going anywhere." Yeoreum laughs, wiping her baby brother's cheek with a table napkin. Yeonsoo giggles, his only two teeth showing, flailing his arms in his highchair.
"It's weird how Yeonsoo literally has a pair of teeth and looks so cute, while I have a full set and can't even look half decent most of the time." Yeoreum thinks out loud, her mother raising a brow as she comes in with a silver tumbler. "Well, you're wrong. The both of you are equally as beautiful, because the both of you take after me." Yeonhee asserted, tucking stray strands of her hair behind her ear. The two share a warm laugh before Yeoreum sonders in silence, her mind capturing this precious moment.
She loved every single moment she could have with her family, which is why she just gazed at them longingly, a few moments of silence wrapping around them. "I love you, mom. I promise you'll be proud of me." Her lips tugged into a genuine smile, her mom was quite surprised by her daughter's words. But ever so gently, she returned an equally loving smile.
"I know you will."
"I love you too Yeonsoo. Noona will be back before you know it, okay?" Yeoreum kisses the top of the kid's head, grabs her packed food and heads out. She waves a goodbye before walking her way to school.
"Lee Yeoreum! Over here!" A petit, blonde- haired girl yelled from a distance. It was Im Hyejoo, Yeoreum's friend ever since kindergarten. The both of them transferred schools together and are classmates in every school they transfer to. "Hey Joo! How was your job interview?" Yeoreum casually recalls her bestfriends endeavour.
"Apparently, I run out of words to say when I'm in front of perfect strangers. I practiced answering questions the night before, though. But I guess I'm better off with jobs without much human interaction." Hyejoo shrugged, her sarcastic words causing Yeoreum to sigh. Yeoreum knew exactly what she was talking about.
"Oh don't say that. There are plenty of other jobs in need of your talent." Yeoreum sassed, encouraging her friend. "Speaking of talent, some girls from the other section told me that another batch of idols are transferring to our school. Didn't tell me who they were, though." Hyejoo muttered like it was nothing, adjusting her bag straps. The both of their feet taking them towards their classroom.
