(It is the year 1986. We open on a starry night in a little town in St. Charles, Missouri. We see a movie theater promoting a marathon of movies they considered "modern classics". This includes movies like The Empire Strikes Back, Caddyshack, Any Which Way You Can, and Flash Gordon.
A mother named Meredith, holding the hand of her eager 6 year old son, emerges from the theater doors. The kid is holding his mother's hand with his left; however, he's using his right hand to mimic a laser gun. Complete with sound effects, of course.)
MEREDITH: "Peter Jason Quill, would you please stand still until we get to the car?"
PETER: "Ok..."
(Peter proceeds to stand perfectly still, like a statue. Meredith laughs.)
MEREDITH: "Alright smarty pants, you knew what I meant..."
(We cut to them reaching an old, worn-out Chevy; Peter is still raving about Flash Gordon.)
PETER: "...and then when the song came on right as he sweeps in to save the day! The guitar was soooooo cool, how it went..." (proceeds to mimic an electric guitar riff)
MEREDITH: (chuckles) "You really liked that movie, didn't you? You really are your father's son..."
PETER: "No, I'm my mommy and daddy's son!"
MEREDITH: "Once again, you're right. One of these, you're gonna be someone else's headache..." (she laughs to herself)
(They enter the car. Meredith closes her eyes and takes a deep breath for a second.)
PETER: "Now where are we goin'?"
MEREDITH: "Well, we're goin' to my favorite place in the whole wide world. It's the only place where you can see every single star in the entire galaxy."
PETER: "Will we see any aliens?"
MEREDITH: "Maybe...maybe you can even high-five one too!"
PETER: "Cool!"
(Cut to 20 minutes later, where we find Peter asleep in the passenger's seat while Meredith calmly drives. "Yesterday" by The Beatles plays on the radio.
A wave of sadness strikes Meredith, so she looks on at Peter peacefully sleeping. She smiles to herself and remembers a time when things were less chaotic, she remembers the golden days that we tend to take for granted and end up wishing we could go back to.
Suddenly...*HONK*
Meredith quickly swerves out of the way of a truck as it angrily honks at her.
Peter abruptly awakens.)
PETER: "Woah ma, what happened?"
MEREDITH: "Oh nothing! Nothing...I just saw...Chewbacca over by the tree there, but he wasn't as friendly as I thought he was..."
