10 years later...

It's only been a decade since Aru and I started working as gods, but the world's changing. Today, five more countries ceased production for single use plastics, and thirteen are passing bills to go green electrically. Earth may have earned itself a few more decades, but the countries that'll actually make a difference haven't gotten on board. The candidates we chose for those countries had to be pulled, meaning most of them are in elementary school... Right now, the plan was to buy time until they got into action.

I sighed and let my bun down as I teleported to our home. My feet landed in the gazebo.

"Aru?" I call out, sensing his form in our office.

That form then concealed itself and placed itself elsewhere. I smile.

"Aru, I got my leave today. Now then... where did you go off to?"

I walked past the pond, looking at the reflection along the way. Pastel and vibrant colors coated it's surface, along with my own reflection. As I neared the end of the pond, I saw a certain fluff of white.

I turned to him, and he caught me in his arms. He rested his head on top of mine, while pulling me into a gentle hug.

"I'm right here. I'm glad they let you take your leave early," he says quietly into my ear, turning me around to place his hands on my bump.

Holding us for a few more seconds, I tell him, "The publication of the article I wrote went great, so they didn't think twice to allow it. I also went ahead and started planning my next novel."

Aru nods, pulling away to take my hand, "Well, now you can rest here. Next week I'll be on leave, and you'll have my full attention then."

"Oh, Aru!" I say, remembering the notification I got earlier, "Wasn't there an epidemic in—"

Before I finish, Aru places a finger on my lips, smiling, "Don't worry about this work. I want you to focus entirely on our baby."

I fluster, "But Aru, I can help with the miscellaneous tasks at least."

Aru remains silent as he opened the cottage door, setting me down on the couch.

Getting up to prepare a snack whilst deep in thought, Aru replies, "Nothing too exerting."

I smile, knowing I got him to cave in. It's not much... but I don't want Aru to work alone. Especially since I'll need to be up to speed eventually. Aru plopped down onto the couch, handing me a bowl of fruits with granola and yogurt. I took the spoon and savored the snack. We didn't need to eat since whatever we needed was self generating. But Aru and I didn't want to give up entirely on living as humans, given how we still lived our lives with them.

I felt Aru's arm snake around my waist, and he reached for the T.V. remote.

"What do want to see?" he asks, the T.V. showing Yukiteru and Yuno sharing a meal together.

That's right, most of our devices had the power to connect to someone in real time. Some of them were random people, others were our candidates to push humanity.

"Just regular YouTube," I say, wanting to relax.

Aru nods and puts on our go-to channel.

A thought ran through my head as I ate the last blueberry, and I turn to Aru, "How was your research on... Deus' performance?"

Taking notice of my discomfort and worry, Aru takes my hands and says, "He wasn't all there. It seems like the better performance, the longer your ruling. Right now we don't have an expiration date with our current performance. You don't need to worry about any of that."

He strokes my cheeks, smiling to reassure me, "It's not like what happened to Deus matters too much for us. As long as we play or cards correctly, we can live happily while making things right in this timeline."

I nod at his solemn words, placing the bowl onto the coffee table and cuddling closer to Aru. My unease wasn't entirely gone...

He pulls closer for comfort and says, "You're worrying too much about all of this."

I thought back to my nights of unease due to the thought of being separated from Aru again. Of course the thought of forgetting him to start a new life scared me, but the thought of not coming back after being god got to me more. I wouldn't even be allowed to feel his soul again if that happened... but I realized how lucky I was to be conscious of my soulmate in the first place.

Aru's hands went under my skirt, wanting our child more closely. I flushed and leaned my head against his chest.

"You're daydreaming about something again. Worrying isn't good for the baby."

"Sorry, Aru..."

"Mm," he hums, placing a kiss on my temple.

"You're right, we'll live together as long as we work hard for it."

He nods, "Right. And I'll take care of you forever. I'll put care into making sure I won't neglect you. I'll work with you until the end of time to nurture what's ours..."

By the end of his declaration, his own face was painted red while looking at me squarely.

I beam at him, "As will I. I'll continue you trust you... and be the best companion I can be for you. I'll make sure you don't feel the dread and the despair you did when I was taken away from you. I'll make sure you're not left incomplete. I'll do whatever I can within my power to stay tied to your soul forever."

Aru smiles and we both break out into laughter, "It's our wedding all over again!"

I giggle and close my eyes, allowing myself to rest like he suggested, "Keeping our vows fresh is healthy... especially with how long we intend to maintain them."

He massages my back, our warmth and mana going back and forth with each other, "I know... I really love you, (Y/n). I don't want to be separated from you."

I place a kiss on his lips, and look deeply into his eyes, "I don't want that either... That's why we'll do a good job, live happily together, knowing our connection, remembering every life, and joyful moment we've shared."

He nods and pulls in for another kiss. With our eyes closed and voices hushed, we whisper sweetly, "I love you."
