It starts slow
And you never see it coming either
A wave hits and pulls you deep into the water
You think nothing of it
Thinking you can just swim back up and be fine again
Until another wave comes
And another
And another
They pull you so far under to where you can't see the light
You don't realize it until it is too late and the light is gone
So you swim upward wanting to see it again and the further up you swim your hope rises with it
You swim faster and right when you think you can break surface...
But another wave comes and forces you down again
So you try to swim up again
And the same thing happens
Again
And again
And again
And again and again until your used to it
The cycle of swimming up just to be forced back down
The darkness surrounds you and makes you feel lost and alone
You feel like you can't call for help
You feel so lost and broken while everyone else feels so free and happy swimming on the surface
Not a care in the world while you stay under water
Drowning in your own thoughts and fears
It feels so overwhelming and scary
Like nothing can stop it and everything just spirals out of control
You feel helpless and sad
So so sad
You want it to be over
To be able to breathe again
But something always pulls you down
You just want it to stop.
But it won't
You just want to remember what happiness feels like because you haven't felt it in so long
But if you ask for help you're scared that person will drown with you
That they will get sucked into your problems too
So you silently cry out hoping someone will see
But you feel like no one does.
So you sit and wait.
Sinking further and further beneath the water.
Further and further into the darkness.
