Jared clutches his nose with agony; a steady stream of crimson liquid is seaping through his hands.
We all just stand there motionless. The only movement is when Nicole's mouth (which is the same colour as Jared's nose) opens into a large O.
Then I turn on my heel and run to the nurses's office, before Jared can open his mouth and stuff himself with humble pie. The entire cafeteria watches me and I can feel their penetrating gaze.
Best friends. My ass. Jared Jackson is an idiot and he deserved that, but clearly the cafeteria doesn't think so. Whispers begin to fly.
"Is that really Bradley Monse?"
"What happened to him?"
Whispers become louder.
"Damn. Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed."
"Just because you lose your girlfriend doesn't mean you punch people."
Whispers become shouts.
"That guy is messed up in the head."
"Poor Jared, what did he ever do?"
I can't face it. I'm going home. I feel like I'm going to throw up the lunch I never had. My insides turn to mush and I just stand outside the nurse's office, breathing. Panting. Gasping for air. Can't I just catch a break?
I hear the pitter patter of stiletto's behind me. Nicole.
Her blonde hair is pulled back into a high ponytail and she wears 6 inch stilettos that echo every step.
"Bradley."
I look down at the floor. I'm not doing this right now.
"I'm sorry."
Sorry isn't good enough. I'm tired of hearing everyone be sorry, when they aren't.
"Look,"
No, I'm not looking.
"You deserve this."
Gee thanks. I totally deserve my best friend replacing me and then stealing my girlfriend a week after I had a car accident.
"You almost killed that girl."
I look up. What the heck?
"Wait what?" I snap at Nicole.
"Isla." She says, her eyebrows are furrowed. She looks cute when she's confused.
"Isla?" I reply.
She opens her phone and shows me a news article. It's the only news teenagers read nowadays, Jamestown High Gossip Blog.
I grab Nicole's phone right out of her hands.
