Chapter 4: Okay, I'm with y'all- Now What?

A few days after the international conference, Texas sat at his desk and rummaged through the trading plans that he and several countries agreed upon. It was already aware to everyone involved that Texas would trade with California and North Carolina.

As his own country, let's just say his economy wasn't doing well- because America is a service economy, many businesses pulled out of Texas. Many of his citizens were left without jobs and there was only so much humanitarian aid he could give before his debts were too much. He had to begin trading with countries as soon as possible to set up new companies. It would be messy to set up new skyscrapers to house them- so instead entire companies would be shoved into buildings with old forms of the recent past.

He imagined that scenario. It made him sweat, but he understood that it was necessary. He wouldn't dare give up now. Not everything his favorite country, North Carolina was doing. He got lost in thought thinking about the past in how North Carolina always told him to follow his orders, to listen to him as he was the oldest and the strongest. And so he complied.

This may come to a shock to you, reader- but I'm simply unreliable. My version of story telling is explaining to you the perspectives of the characters in this tale even when it may not be accurate. North Carolina parades around that Texas followed him because of his admiration, but it's rather because Texas felt that if he didn't- he would be doomed. Texas takes pride in himself and his close friends, so his admiration is a driving factor in his decision making.

Texas heard a knock on the door. He told them to come in- and who he saw shocked him.

"Hello." Oklahoma spoke softly.

"What are you doing here?" Texas questioned, getting out of his chair and going to hug his best friend.

Oklahoma was lifted up in the air by his friends deadly hug. He strained out, "I-I wanted to talk to you..."

Texas put down Oklahoma. "Sure! But let me call my security just in case you're coming in to kill me!"

"I couldn't kill you even if I tried." Oklahoma said in monotone.

Oklahoma took a seat in an armchair in front of Texas' desk. Texas hung up the phone and Oklahoma's ears filled up with the sounds of roaring footsteps barging into the room. Oak chuckled nervously, looking over his shoulder to see several tall men wearing suits aiming guns at him.

"They'll just have to check you and the room to make sure you didn't bug the place- then we'll talk!" Texas cheerily said.

Several minutes passed with the men shuffling around in the small space and Oklahoma make continuous eye contact to a smiling Texas.

"All clear." Oak heard behind him from one of the men.

Texas nodded in reply. "So, what brings you here?"

Oklahoma piped up. "Oh! Yeah, that..." he scratched his head. "Well, I'll be quick. I want to leave the union."

Texas eyes widened in shock and several the men behind the two gasped- like the audience for a play. "Really?" Texas exclaimed, "That's awesome!"
