North Carolina: a lot of the characterization of North Carolina comes from its history of rebellion and its intense military power. As well, the spirit of North Carolina is imbedded deep with its surroundings, making N.C. the character very connected with nature. North Carolina is very religious and references God a lot in his motivations. NC strives to be as good as possible and as generous as possible, but can fall short of that with his military capabilities and cruelty.
Simple Facts about NC in this AU:
-North Carolina hides his natural dialect, the Ocracoke dialect. The dialect is from eastern North Carolina, where many people lived in NC before the birth of the nation. North Carolina has infertile land past the coast, which makes it hard to farm. It would be difficult to survive beyond that point. NC hides his dialect to appeal to the people who aren't native to the south. The Ocracoke dialect is not considered to be American, which fits well with North Carolina not being apart of America in this universe.

Texas: Texas is similar to North Carolina, where his depiction comes from his rebellious history, but more so with his southern culture. North Carolina is mid-Atlantic, so there are a lot of aspects of Northern culture with N.C. However, Texas is full blown southern with a hint of Western culture. Texas is strong and large due to the states size, and very nationalist. However, in this novel it's a twist where that Texas is rather prideful with itself. A large inspiration with this book comes from American culture, where Americans are more loyal to their state rather than the country at whole, citing that the states are very different from others. There's more state pride inside ourselves rather than country pride.

California: California is more simple. Her personality is based around her love of money and television, her life on the red carpet. She is vain, but at the same while she's very empathetic towards her citizens. She's also very fake. She pretends to be dedicated to saving the planet but is just as much as a slob she criticizes others to be (She criticizes North Carolina the most, which has a history of oil spills and military accidents).

South Carolina: South Carolina is an interesting one. He's incredibly rebellious, but also incredibly insecure. He represents the economy of South Carolina and how it changed before and after the civil war, once being a powerful and rich state, to being absolutely dirt poor. The character of South Carolina is incredibly fucked up in the head with a lot of self hatred and aggression. He and North Carolina are biological siblings who have a rivalry, but at the same time have a loving relationship and are happy with being with each other. South Carolina loves Britain and strives to have a good relationship with the country like it had in the past before the American Revolution.

Nevada: The characterization of Nevada is based around its most fascinating places, those being Area 51 and Las Vegas. Nevada is cocky and fun- but incredibly secretive. He doesn't speak much, but he parties hard. Nevada is rich, but not as rich as California. He spends his nights drinking and his days conducting scientific experiments and developing artillery.

Oklahoma: The characterization of Oklahoma is based around its history and natural occurrences. With many Native Americans living on the land, it's very religious and full of Native Spirit. With the tornadoes, He's strong and tough. He can withstand the hardest of emotional struggles without breaking down. He's caring and empathetic to those who have suffered, because he has suffered himself. Oklahoma does not get along with Nevada and California, who he sites as America part 2 because of their corruption. Oklahoma doesn't really get along with any of the Freed States other than Texas- so he refuses to interact with them if Texas isn't there.
