For an hour, everyone in the courtroom waited for the jury to reach a verdict for Peter. As he drank a glass of water, Peter was nervous. "You alright kid?" Jen asked. "I've listened to his heartbeat Jen, Parker's a nervous wreck," said Matt. "That's the understatement of the year Mr. Murdock," joked Peter, "I mean, if I am proven innocent, yeah I'll be glad, but that doesn't change the fact that everyone knows who I am now. What if all my friends end up in danger because of me?" Jessica spoke from behind and said, "don't beat yourself up kid. That was my job five years ago. I think Matt and Jen just proved you were framed."
"Have to agree with Jess on this one," said Luke, "I know what it's like, being punished for a crime you didn't commit. You ain't guilty in our opinion. You're a good kid, Parker. You actually have family and friends that love you. Don't ever take them for granted. You never know when you might lose them." Peter smirked and jokingly asked, "I guess you guys are like superheroes." Danny shrugged and chuckled, "more or less." Two minutes later, the jury returned. Judge Batzer asked, "ladies and gentlemen of the jury, have you reached a verdict?" This was it, Peter thought, his fate rested in their hands. The nine or ten words that would be spoken could make or break Peter. One of the jurors, a man named Jacob Kurtzberg, stood up, cleared his throat and said, "we have reached a unanimous verdict, your honor. We the jury, find Peter Parker not guilty on the charges of the murder of Quentin Beck and the attack against London." Peter gasped in jovial surprise. "You're innocent, Parker!" Jen said with glee. Foggy gave Matt a high five, Professor Hulk hugged Jen, others murmured relief, happiness; though some like Jameson, were displeased. MJ ran up and hugged Peter, kissing him on the lips. "Order in the court!" Batzer shouted, "Mr. Parker, a word."
"Yes your honor?" Peter asked as he walked to the bench. "I think everyone in this courtroom owes you a huge apology Mr. Parker," said Judge Batzer, "you were simply trying to go on a class field trip, and you ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time. And when you tried to help, you were simply punished for your troubles, and had your secret exposed to the world, which you didn't want. Thankfully, you had the best people who knew the truth and were willing to prove your innocence. I know Tony believed in you, and I hope the public's trust in Spider-Man heals over time. But know that you have my respect. You are more of a hero than Mysterio ever was. And trust me, I don't like people with a hero's syndrome, but thankfully you don't have that." Peter smiled, gave a respectful nod, and said, "thank you your honor."
It was a media circus outside as everyone left the court. Several Media news outlets from America and other European countries asked Peter and his lawyers various questions. Throughout all this randomness, Peter's Spider Senses tingled. He heard a car screeching, and he shouted, "GUYS, LOOK OUT!" Suddenly there was the sound of a gunshot, and everyone screamed and panicked, running out of the way. As soon as the chaos ended, Matt asked, "is everyone okay?" Jen gasped in pain, gripping her stomach. There was blood on her hands. "Jen?" Matt asked. As Jen fell on her knees, Peter looked in horror. Someone tried to assassinate him, and Jen took the bullet instead of him. "Oh no!" Peter cried, terrified for Matt and Jen. Professor Hulk picked her up and said, "I got her Matt. She needs medical attention. I'll get her to a hospital, ASAP!" He then ran out of the court, carrying Jen in his arms. "Oh God, what do we do, Mr. Murdock?" Peter asked frantically. Matt looked at Peter and calmly said, "there's nothing you can do right now Peter. Rest assured, Professor Hulk is taking Jen to a hospital so that her wounds can be tended and she can be given proper blood. You're going to be released from jail tomorrow, so you should go and wait. Karen, did you see the vehicle that the assassin was driving?" Karen nodded and said, "I did. Jessica took a picture of the license plate during the chaos."
"Smart thinking Jessica," commended Matt. "I try," joked Jessica, "should we start investigating?" Matt nodded and said, "yeah, let's do that." As Parker left the courtroom to go to the car that would take him back to jail, he was worried for Jen. The last thing he wanted was her death on his hands. Peter could only hope.
