Song of the chapter: The Kids Aren't Alright - Fall Out Boy
-*-*-*-*-*-
Getting past the boys was hard. The boy who got me out of the box, Newt, had grabbed my arm and pulled me towards a wooden building, but not quick enough. There was laughing and shouting and catcalls and the boys seemed like they were trying to get as close to me as possible.
I kept my head down and carried on walking.
Newt opened the door to the building for me and ushered me in. I walked into the room. It was quite dark, with only one window. There were a load of chairs spread out in the room in a semi circle. Sat in one of the chairs in the semi circle, was a boy. He was around 18, dark skinned, and hair cut short to his skull. He was muscly, and as he stood up, he towered over me.
The boy kept a calm look on his face, but I couldn't help but notice the gleam of surprise in his eyes.
"I brought the girl in here, Alby. The rest of the gladers were a bit... Shocked." Newt said to the boy, Alby.
I looked at Newt, then at Alby, then back at Newt. "Where-" I broke off with a cough, my voice hoarse from not saying anything for a long time. "Where am I?"
Alby smiled at me.
"You're in the Glade," he said. "This is your new home." He paused for a moment, "do you remember your name?"
I shook my head, and went to ask another question, when they all came tumbling out of my mouth. "Why can't I remember my name? Actually, why can't I remember anything about me? What's going on? Why am I here? Why are there so many boys and only one girl? What-"
The look on Alby's face made me snap my mouth shut. I looked down at the floor, at my brown boots, and at my knife still in my hand. Newt noticed the knife at the same time I looked down, and quickly snatched it off of me.
"You'll find out tomorrow. I'll give you a tour of the Glade, and then we will need to have a gathering. We need to decide what to do with you."
I gasped. "Excuse me?"
"You're a girl, so you will need to be dealt with differently than boys." The way he spoke told me not to ask anymore questions. I nodded my head and looked at Newt. He motioned for me to follow him, so I did. We walked out of the room together, and outside into the 'Glade'.
It was bigger than I had noticed when I got out of the box. There was a small wood opposite where I was standing. I turned around behind me, and there was a set of four wooden hut next to each other. On the left of the woods, were 5 pens with some animals kept in them, and a large hut. On the left of that were gardens. 'Gladers' were walking around the place, working, I assumed. It all seemed peaceful and lovely to me, but there was one thing that made my heart skip a beat. We were surrounded by four humungous walls. We were trapped in.
I whipped my head around towards Newt. The worried expression must've been obvious on my face, but he shrugged it off and laughed.
"You'll learn about it tomorrow. Come on, I think you need something to eat." He said, his brown eyes staring into mine.
We walked to the hut where the animal pens were, but I trailed behind a little. I had been too busy to actually notice what Newt looked like. He was quite tall, around 5'9", with a sandy colour hair, that probably hadn't been cut in a long time. He wore cutoff trousers and a hoodie, both covered in mud and what looked like sand. I also noticed he walked with a slight... Limp. I wonder what happened to him?
