Chapter 5 : S(w)autan

Sameer parked his car in front of the small flower shop on his way to Naina's house. He did not plan on buying flowers but the idea suddenly popped up in his mind when he saw the shop. He entered the shop and asked for a red rose when the shopkepper said that all of his red roses were just purchased by a lady. He turned around to find a lady exiting the shop with a boquet full of red roses in it. He followed her out and called out for her.

"Excuse me", he said. She turned towards him. "Yes."  "Hmm actually main red rose karidne aaya tha aur shop keeper ne kaha ki aapne saare roses karid le hai. Aur main apne fiancé ke liye karidne wala tha. If you don't mind kya main aapke bouqet se sirf ek rose le sakta hoon. Just one. Please", he requested with a smile. "Sorry main nahi de sakti", came the reply to him.  "Dekhiye sirf ek de djiye na, she loves roses aur aapke paas toh itne saare hai."   "Toh. Dekye Mister main bhi yeh kissi khass keliye le jaa rahi ho so I cant give you any. Sorry." She replied and walked off. Disappointed Sameer went inside the shop again and compromised on carnations. He bought a bouquet of pink and white carnations and drove to Naina's house.

Doorbell rang at the Agarwal house and Naina opened the door to find someone holding a bouquet full of roses in front of her face. Peeping from the side she said "Surprise."  "Swati!!!! Tum", Naina squealed of joy. Swati gave the bouquet to Naina and hugged her tightly. "Kaisi ho".  "Acchi hoon. Bataya nahi ki tum aa rahi ho."   "Haan socha surprise de doon. Toh kaisa laga mera surprise."   "Bohot badiya", Naina said with a wide smile on her face. "Naina, beta itna chila kyu...", Chachiji who just came from the kitchen froze for a second seeing the guest and immediately a smile spread on her face as she said "Aree Swati beta. Kaisi ho."   "Namaste chachi."   "Toh batao, tumhara teraining kaisa raha."   "Accha tha."  "Bhaghwan jhoot na bulwaye beta ekdum sahi waqt par aayi ho, paanch din baad Naina ki sagai hai." The excitement from Swati's face reduced hearing the word 'sagai'.

The doorbell rang once again. "Maina dekhti hoon", Swati said opening the door. She saw the man who she met outside the flower shop and said, "Tum yahan taka aa gaye. Maine kaha na..."   "Sameer" Naina's voice came from behind Swati's expressions became more stern. "Oh toh tum ho Sameer." Sameer gave her a slight smile and saw the bouquet of red roses in Naina's hands and understood who the intruder was. "Ayee damad ji", chachiji welcomed Sameer adjusting the pallu over her head. "Yeh tumhare liye" Sameer said extending the flowers towards Naina. But before Naina could react Swati took it from his hand and kept it on the tea table. "Damad ji yeh Swati, Naina ki firend." "Special  friend", Swati added.

"O bai bela, tum sab tayar huye ke nahi."  Taiji said as he hurriedly left her slippers outside the house and was shocked to find Sameer already there. "Damad ji aap aa gaye."  "Namaste taiji", he said bending and touching his feet. "Khush raho. Sab taiyar hai ki nahi." "Haan taiji hum sab tayar hai", Naina replied to her. "Tum log kahin jaa rahe ho kya?", Swati questioned Naina. "Haan woh Naina aur Sameer ke anghooti karidne keliye", Bela chachi replied. "Ohh", Swati said lost in thoughts. "Main bhi chaloon", She asked. "Haan beta chalo na. Damad ji apko itraz toh nahi hai."  "Nahi nahi chachiji. Chalein." Sameer said with a slight smile.

The five of them got into Sameer's car. With Sameer and Naina in the front and the rest at the back. "Mummy ji pohunch gayi?" Naina asked putting the seat belt on. "Haan woh sab pohunch gaye honge. Mummy aur Munna driver ke saath gadi main chale gaye aur main Pandit ki gadi main tum ko pick karne aaya", Sameer replied keeping his head straight  on the road. "Damad ji aur Preeti bhi aa rahe hai na".  "Ji chachiji, Pandit bhabhi ko lekar bike main aa jayega". With that the ride to the jeweler shop was spent in silence.

As the the five of them got inside the shop they found Vishaka, Munna, Pandit and Preeti already there at the shop. Both the familes exchanged pleasantries. Preeti and Swati waved at each other excitedly. While Vishaka looked at Swati, counfused. Pandit introduced Swati to Vishaka saying "Aunty ji yeh Swati Naina ki dost".  "Oh. Hello beta."   "Hi aunty."   "Toh select karen", Vishaka asked Naina with a please smile. "Ji mummy ji".  All of them proceeded to the ring section. It was decided that first Sameer's ring would be selected as according to Munna and Pandit boys would take less time than girls and it would get over fast.
