Warning: Major Character Death

Dean's job was always to take care of his baby brother. It was all he'd even known how to do. Even as adults, Dean always kept a close eye on Sammy, always making sure he was safe. As a kid, their dad didn't even have to tell Dean. He took Sam as his own responsibility, always keeping Sam out of harm's was, and making sure that nothing and no one hurt him.
But now, all Dean was doing was hurting Sam.

Dean walked into the motel room, his signature smirk planted on his face. He shook a bit of snow off of his leather jacket and threw it onto the bed. Sam looked up from his laptop, giving him an odd look.
"What's up with you? Did you meet Paris Hilton at the bar and get her number or something?" Sam teased, and Dean's smirk changed to a frown.
"Don't be a bitch, Sam," Dean growled. Sam closed his laptop and stood, sending Dead a questioning look.
"I was just joking, dude. Cool your jets," Sam said, unsure of why Dean had gotten so angry all of a sudden.
"'Just joking'? Were you 'just joking' when you left me and dad to go off to college? Were you 'just joking' when you let your girlfriend, Jessica, get killed?" Dean spat, glaring at Sam venomously. Sam had the classic deer-caught-in-headlights look.
"Dean? Wh-what?" Sam stuttered, unable to even out his thoughts into words. Dean smirked a little bit.
"What, Sam? What is it? You gonna lie to me again? you gonna lie and tell me that you care about me enough to let me go to hell?" Dean glared, with only a tiny hint of a smirk. By now, Sam's eyes were brimming with tears.
"I-I didn't-" Sam began, only to be cut off by Dean.
"Exactly, Sam! You didn't. Not once, when dad and I needed you, were you there. Even mom! Mom died because of you! Had you never been born, I could be living a happy life, not hunting down monsters for a living," Dean snarled. Sam's eyes were wide with hurt and confusion, also teary, giving him the look of a kicked puppy.
"What, Sam? Did you seriously think I cared about you? Did you seriously think I loved you?" Dean let out a laugh and shook his head. "You're sorely mistaken, little brother. I only took care of you because that was dad's orders. If he hadn't given me those orders, I would have ditched your ass years ago," Dean seethed, inwardly relishing Sam's horrified and hurt expression.
"Wha-what? You...you want me gone?" Sam croaked after a few failed attempts at talking. Dean nodded firmly.
"You've always held me back on hunts, and you are always getting yourself in danger, which I have to save you from," Dean hissed. "It would be best if you just get out of my life."
Sam, with tears streaming down his cheeks, bit his lip and nodded.
"Okay," Sam whispered heartbrokenly, walking over to the door. "Bye, Dean." Sam stepped outside into the icy, cold blizzard that raged on, wincing and pulling his jacket around him as he trudged away from the motel room. And Dean.

Dean Winchester was possessed. He knew it the second he stepped in the door, when the demon took full control of his body. Every time he tried to apologize to Sam for what the demon had said, more horrible words had spilled out. Horrible because they weren't true. None of it was. Not to mention the fact that that bastard demon used Dean's meat suit to say those things. Dean screamed and fought to gain control of his body, but the demon only smirked.
"Come on, Dean. You've gotta try harder than that," the demon purred. Dean was raging.
"I swear to God I'll kill you!" Dean howled. The demon smirked again, a classic look on Dean's face.
"Maybe. But not before Sammy kills himself," the demon grinned. Dean stopped cold. Sam had left in the middle of a blizzard, in only his jacket and jeans. Not to mention it was the middle of the night. Sam would die out there.
"You sonovabitch!" Dean screamed, kicking and thrashing around, unable to regain control of his own body. The demon sighed, still grinning.
"Honestly, I have no more use for you. I did my work, and I followed my orders. Sam Winchester will be dead before morning," the demon cackled, exiting Dean's body in a billow of dark obsidian smoke. Dean collapsed to the floor, unconscious.

Sam pulled his jacket tightly around his frame, shivering as the snow pelted his face, feeling like tiny needles. He didn't look back, though. Not once. Dean wanted him gone so he left. He tried not to think about it as he trudged through the the foot-deep-and-building snow, squinting his eyes at the harsh wind and snow.
His tears from earlier had long since frozen to his face. He even had tiny icicles hanging from his hair, which was flying and blowing everywhere in the wind, little snowflakes turning his hair almost all white. He continued stumbling along, unable to see more than five feet in front of him. So, he didn't notice that he'd walked right into the road. And he didn't notice the truck until it was practically on top of him.

Dean awoke with a gasp. He sat up off the floor and jumped to his feet, a little dizzy from moving so quickly. He was also really stiff. Dean looked around, thinking it was all a dream. When he saw that Sam wasn't in the motel room, he realized with horror that it had all happened.
Shoving on his shoes, he grabbed his leather jacket and wrenched open the door, sprinting outside. He ran through the snow, large gusts of wind slapping him in the face. Dean began screaming. Screaming for his baby brother.
"Sam!" he shouted, the wind causing stinging tears to escape his eyes and freeze onto his cheeks seconds later. He called out again.
"Sam!" Dean took a look around, not really able to see much of anything. That is, until he saw the tall, hunched figure standing in the road. And the truck rushing towards it.
"No!" Dean screamed, running forward just in time to watch Sam get slammed into with the pickup truck, flying ten feet away and landing with a dull thump on the side of the road. The truck driver drove off, probably thinking he'd hit a deer or something. Dean raced over to where his brother had landed. Sam had blood coating his face and his jacket seemed torn to shreds, along with Sam's skin.
"Sam? Sam! Sammy!" Dean cried, more tears freezing to his cheeks. He slapped Sam's bloody cheek with a numb hand, getting no reaction. Dean breathed on his hands, rubbed them together, warming them up quickly, and placed one over Sam's mouth, feeling for a puff of warm air. Which there was, though it was so weak, Dean though he may have been mistaken.
"De-" Sam slurred, getting interrupted by a coughing fit, hacking up a few mouthfuls of blood. Dean hugged his brother gingerly as Sam laid on the cold, wet ground, dying.
"S'okay, Sammy. I'm sorry, I'm so sorry," Dean sobbed, hanging his head. Sam opened his eyes and squinted at Dean with a determined look.
"N't...your fault," Sam choked out, wheezing heavily and holding his hand against his stomach, where blood was seeping through his jacket and staining the powerdery white snow a dark red color.
Dean shook his head. They didn't have time for this angst. He gulped when he saw the blood pooling around them.
"You'll be okay, Sam. I-I'll fix you up. I'm gonna take care of you, I'm gonna take care of you. Cause that's my job, right? Watching out for my pain in the ass little brother," Dean said, his voice trembling as he rechecked Sam's pulse. Nearly nothing.
"I'll be 'kay, D'n," Sam breathed. "I...see you then," Sam Winchester then exhaled a long, silent sigh, dying in his older brother's arms.
