Epilogue

5 years later...

Leah's POV

I watched as young Sara splashed in the puddles before picking her up and planting a sloppy kiss on her cheek. Her bright gold-hazel eyes, replica's of her namesake, were alight with adventure and happiness as she giggled and squirmed in my arms.

Turning back to the house I saw Uncle Jack in the window cradling a very pregnant Rose and smiled as he led her towards the couch. They had found each other when Sara was born and have been inseparable ever since.

Adrian, Jack and I had moved out the week after he had returned and Grams had joined us once we found this place. It was once an abandoned hotel due to its seclusion and being overrun by the woods surrounding it. A perfect location for us.

Solomon and Mel had asked to join us and we lived free of wolf politics until a few nomads asked to stay with us as well. Adrian had officially become Alpha then and we had thrived, everyone wanting to be part of the pack with the alpha who had the ancient lycan genes. Adrian's mutations were our calling card.

Liam took over the other pack and changed the entire social dynamic, he became a greater leader than his father ever was. Adrian's parents had left on a permanent vacation travelling the world and only visiting occasionally to see Liam. As far as they concerned they only had one remaining child, Sara's death and Zack's disappearance had not changed them but it didn't matter. They were never his parents in the past and they weren't going to be in the future.

Grams opened the window above me and waved, she was more than excited to be a great grandmother and I had a feeling all the cookies Sara had were due to her doting Grangran. Adrian came over, those perfect golden eyes shining brightly as he took us in.

Gone was the black specks that once invaded him but I knew it was still there. He confided in me once that he still felt the dark presence on occasion but it was weak because all he felt was love and happiness in his life. I smiled at the thought.

"How are my ladies today" he called as he kissed me and reached for Sara.

'Just perfect' I thought as I watched him start playing with his daughter, cherishing the moment. My hand trailing towards my stomach, I had yet to tell him there would be another child who would be dominating his attention soon, already feeling the power course through me from our future Alpha.

I walked into the house and looked out into the shadowed woods. There was something wrong in the winds, a scent that was familiar but couldn't place. I shivered and hoped the feeling would soon pass.

We had built our own utopia here, and no problems had yet to follow us here. I sniffed again and slowly let it go. I wasn't going to dwell on the past or look for trouble, nothing was going to change our lives; I would make sure of it.

Zack's POV

Hiding behind a tree I moved so the wind would not catch my scent.

I watched as she bent down trying to pick up the little 2 year old over her already swollen belly. It took me almost 5 years but I finally found her. Despite her condition she still looked beautiful, glowing, her eyes bright, she was much stronger than I remembered.

I craved to go to her, I wanted to hold her and never let go. I wanted her.

All these years of searching for her only to find her and her... husband, I thought with a bitter taste in my mouth.

Speaking of the devil, he came out of the house and walked towards her. Picking the child out of her arms he put them on his shoulders. He slowly leaned down and gave her a long kiss before turning around and winking at her. She looked back at him, happiness exuding from every pore in her body.

That should've been me making her happy.

As I watched her walk away I reflected on my actions in the past, the way I treated her and sighed. I was going to do something good for her at least once in my life.

I was going to put her before me.

Doing something I never thought I would I turned around, "Goodbye Mel" my last thought as I ran deeper into the shadows and further into the horizon.
