At dinner you sit between Yoongi and Jisoo. You eat in silence with the others until Jimin clears his throat to speak. Everyone turns to look at him.
"Umm..." he says.
Jimin POV
I didn't mean to. I really didn't. I thought no one was there. After what happened when I discovered my ability, I wouldn't ever use it around people on purpose. It wasn't even supposed to be that big. It was supposed to be small, controlled, nothing like it was.
"I...I did it," I stammer.
Jin looks at me, frowning. "I told you not to use your powers in public areas! What were you thinking?"
"I didn't think anyone was there!" I say. "After what happened when I discovered it, I wouldn't ever use it around other people on purpose."
"Someone care to explain what the heck you two are talking about?" Jungkook asks.
"You don't know?" Namjoon replies. "You and Y/N have the mark, too. I thought you would have known."
"Jimin..." Yoongi says. "I didn't know you were that powerful." He shakes his head, still processing the fact that I was capable of this.
"So, um, I'm still confused," Jungkook states. "You're saying that...Jimin caused the lightning storm? How is that possible?"
"Look at your wrist," Namjoon instructs Y/N and Jungkook. "See the circle? That's the mark of the chosen. It hasn't changed, which means your power is either air or you haven't manifested yet. How did you not know?"
I glance at my own wrist, tattooed with the emblem of a lightning boat. It morphed on the day of the accident, and I've been able to manipulate electricity and storms ever since. I usually try to hide it, though.
"Um, Jisoo and I don't have the mark," Rosé states. "What does that mean?"
"You guys are normal," Namjoon replies. "You weren't chosen. That means you don't have any powers. Just promise to keep all this a secret, okay?" The two girls nod.
"Let's just go around the table and state out powers and how we manifested," Jin suggests. Everyone nods. "I'll go first.
"I have comprehension, which is the ability to understand things easily. That's why I'm such a good cook. I manifested in the middle of my math finals a few years ago."
Namjoon goes next. "I'm a technopath. I'm good with tech and stuff. I use my ability to produce songs. I manifested in the kitchen with Jin and made a blander explode. That's why he doesn't like me to help cook.
"I also have a bit of the destruction element because my parents had conflicting abilities," he continues. "Hence my nickname."
"I manifested shortly after the accident," Yoongi says. He glances at me, then at Y/N. "In the hospital. I manipulated the shadows to block out my pain."
Next up is Taehyung. "I manifested yesterday. I have earth, so I can control rocks and dirt and gravity. I lessened the gravity in my room yesterday. Want me to try it here?"
Everyone shakes their heads, not very eager to see what weightlessness feels like.
"I'll go!" Hoseok says. "Mine manifested when I met Yoongi. I accidentally cleansed his shadows with my light. Oops."
"As you know, I have electricity," I state. "I manifested in my car and caused an accident."
I close my eyes, not wanting to cry. Y/N reaches over to take my hand. "It's okay, Jimin," she says. "You couldn't control it. It's not your fault. You didn't choose for it to happen, just like I didn't chose for my parents to die. If I had been with my dad when he went scuba diving, he might not have drowned. If I hadn't gotten sick, my mom might not have died because of her cancer. I couldn't control any of that, just like you couldn't control it. You just need to move on. I didn't go to the beach for a while after my dad died, but after a while, I became brave enough to face my fears. You have to face yours too."
She squeezes my hand once before letting go. A tear slips down her smiling face, and she wipes it away. Yoongi notices, and holds a small Kumamon keychain out to her, smiling. Y/N takes it, wrapping Yoongi in a hug. She mumbles something inaudible, then gets up and steps outside on the balcony.
End Jimin POV
You step outside onto the porch, unsure what to do. You take a breath before tears start to fall. They land in a small pot of soil. You remember your mother's funeral. How your dad asked people to plant a single lily somewhere in memory of her. Lilies where her favorite flower, you knew.
You calm yourself before you look at the pot. Something is growing from it. Your tears stop as you lean over it. A tiger lily. That definitely wasn't there before. Your eyes widen in surprise and you stumble backward.
Instead of falling though, someone catches you and helps you regain you balance. You turn around to see Namjoon giving you his dimpled smile.
"Jin sent me out to check on you," he says. "So, um, are you better now?"
"Namjoon," you say. "I-I think I made that thing grow." You point to the lily growing out of the flower pot. "I swear it wasn't here when I came outside."
"Hang on, let me get Jungkook," Namjoon replies, turning to go back in side.
A few moments pass before Jungkook and Namjoon step back out onto the porch. Jungkook leans over to study the flower pot.
"No, I never had a lily," he states. "Some daisies used to grow in that pot, but they died and I got rid of them."
"So if it wasn't grown naturally..." Namjoon begins. "Y/N! Your wrist!"
You look up at him in confusion. "My...what?"
"Your wrist!" he says again. "The mark! Has it changed?" Namjoon grabs your arm and lifts it to his face. "No..." he mutters. "How is that possible?"
