This kid was getting on his last nerve.
Han Shangyan watched irritably as the bespectacled youth nervously adjusted his jacket, visible sweat beading on his brow as he smiled uncertainly at Tong Nian. All full of smiles and simpers for his Little Squid. Gun was positive his blood was on fire as he skidded to a halt, his gaze fixed on the pair like a hunting dog. What in the name of all that was holy is happening here? The other boy's expression was far too excited for Shangyan's liking and Nian Nian's answering smile was far too bright for comfort. It made his teeth itch and he found himself suddenly longing for his sweets to bite down on; anything to distract himself from this sudden unsettled feeling. How else was he supposed to quell this simmering rage inside him? He was annoyed with himself for being so easily flustered - he was Gun, legendary leader, permanently haughty, collected and unruffled - to suddenly find himself in this situation was bemusing indeed. Especially when Tong Nian had no idea how he felt about her.
How do I feel about her? He mused introspectively as he watched Nian Nian fidget with the strap on her bag, her eyes regrettably not on him. No. They were on the kid. Who would have thought that this mild, unassuming boy would have the spine to make a move on a girl? His girl?! The frustrated male's dark calculating eyes were cold and clinical as they swept from head to toe of the quivering youth, assessing every detail, identifying every potential weakness and filing it away for future reference; Gun had to admit, he wasn't impressed. How was it that this boy was a threat? He was weak chinned and weedy and very clearly had little self confidence; did he really think he stood a chance with Tong Nian? It was utterly ridiculous and yet Han Shangyan could still feel his hackles rising reactively as Nian Nian remained entirely focused on her classmate, her smile charmingly innocent and heart achingly beautiful. She hadn't so much as looked at him and it was driving him insane! The usually stoic leader flexed his jaw fitfully as his resolve hardened in grim determination; this boy clearly didn't know what he was getting into and he had just unwittingly made himself a powerful enemy. Why was Gun even trying to fool himself; he knew exactly how he felt about the little bubblegum princess who had crashed into his life and brought colour back into his monochromatic world.
Gun watched with clenched teeth as the ignorant young pup flirted ineptly with his woman RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM. Granted, he knew that at the present moment they technically weren't an item due to him 'trying to do the right thing' - what an unwise decision that had been, but still, this was a blow to his once hardened soul. He hadn't anticipated Little Squid agreeing to date another man so readily - his heart had stopped when he learned she had agreed to a drink at the hospital with that boy who had been living in her house. This child was attempting to make a move on Gun's territory and he had never been one to give up without a fight. It had been arrogant on his part, but in his heart, he had held out hope that Nian Nian would persevere, that she would come back to him - that hadn't been the case, and he dreaded what that meant. What if his recent actions had pushed her right into the arms of another man? This was all his fault. He should never have listened to her mother's biased, narrow views. It had probably damaged his relationship with Tong Nian permanently beyond repair and it was more than he could bear.
Gun decided he must have been suffering from a moment of madness when he agreed to break it off; her mother's disapproval had really gotten under his skin and he had acted out of sorts. It was unprecedented; since when did the almighty Gun God care about what people thought of him? He hadn't changed his decisions for Solo, he hadn't done it for Appledog and Little Mi, so why should he cave to Nian's Nian's mother just because she was prejudiced against his profession? The silly woman didn't even understand what he did. But Nian Nian did and that should have been all that mattered. He should have respected that she was an adult, an incredibly smart and talented woman who was fully capable of making her own decisions. He had taken away her autonomy and hurt her astronomically in the process; for this, he was more sorrowful than he knew how to verbalise.
