Women. Such a mystery.

Gun frowned minutely as he gazed mournfully at his sleeping girlfriend, her slumber deceptively peaceful and untroubled. Nian Nian looked surprisingly content, like she didn't have a care in the world and yet, her boyfriend knew differently - apparently, she was harbouring some festering resentment towards him and what was most worrying was that he hadn't even realised. It was demoralising and sobering, a foreign kind of uncertainty that made the hairs on the back of his neck rise; a panic he couldn't describe was thrumming through his being, leaving him painfully on edge with no outlet. Gun wasn't entirely sure how Little Squid had managed to fall so soundly asleep whilst she was so upset with him but he wasn't convinced the turmoil was over. In fact, he was willing to wager K and K's place in the next tournament that more trouble was brewing. Surely this was only the calm before the storm.

Nian Nian had been so very disenchanted with him earlier, her words sharpened with disappointment he hadn't known dwelled in her heart; it wasn't so much that Gun was unaccustomed to this type reaction from others, but the fact that it was his Little Squid looking at him with those saddened doe eyes was what almost floored him. It wasn't what the usually composed Han Shangyan had been expecting at all and it was most certainly the first time his girl had ever expressed even a modicum or dissatisfaction with him. He could feel the world beneath his feet tremble and he despised and feared it; he felt more unsettled and unsteady than he ever had before. Tong Nian was usually his staunchest supporter and always so kind and forgiving; this was a bitter side to her he had awakened, and he didn't care for it one bit. Han Shangyan was officially scared for the first time in his life; scared that he was driving away the one woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. Is it possible to lose someone before they truly become yours?

The former Gun God swallowed dryly as the memory of Nian Nian's baleful eyes, reproach shimmering in their chocolate depths swam through his subconscious, a shudder slipping unbidden down his spine. It had been their very first argument and he sincerely hoped it was their last; his heart felt like it was being gripped with icy fingers as he chewed over every harsh word she had flung at him, every uncomfortable truth she had laid so eloquently on the table. It really bothered him that he had so clearly hurt Tong Nian, the very epitome of sunshine. His face was frozen, he could feel it, but internally, acid was churning in the pit of his stomach and waves of nausea were pulsing dizzily through his veins. He didn't like this... separation he could feel blooming between them. He didn't like it at all.

Gun felt positively lightheaded and yet, he didn't think he would be able to sleep that night. He could feel adrenaline crashing though his veins like a tsunami, and he didn't think he would be able to sit still for long. Not knowing that his beloved woman was so very unhappy with him. Did every man feel like this when their girl was so sad? The somewhat playful dynamic had shifted between him and Nian Nian at some point during their perilous car journey (Little Squid inexpertly at the wheel, bless her heart), but loathe as he was to admit it, the K and K boss couldn't pinpoint exactly where he had stepped out of line. Was it because he had questioned her driving skills and offended her? No... he didn't think this was what was bothering his girl. It was probably the marriage issue.... that was what she kept alluding to and she had been fine until that one little word was mentioned. His tiny sun had been as happy as a clam, her pearly smile as wide and bright and captivating as always. She was so utterly bewitching and she practically gave him toothache, she was so sweet; he hadn't been able to stop himself from beaming in response, her smile the quickest way to his once impenetrable heart. How was it that all that sweetness had soured so quickly? What was Tong Nian expecting from him exactly? More than anything in the world, the usually composed leader just wanted to give her what her heart desired - he just didn't know what that was because he was an awkward idiot!
