True to his word, Garrett helped me search for a house the very next day. I awoke sprawled almost sideways across the mattress with my legs across his. I'd later learn that he was looking at Zillow and had set up a few showings.
"Hey, babe," I groaned, the sun hurting my eyes. "Have you even slept?"
"I did a little bit," he replied. "I wanted to be helpful, so I was looking through listings for you." He looked almost embarrassed.
"I don't deserve you," I said as I ran my hand along his cheek. "How long do I have to get ready?"
"The first appointment isn't until three, so we've got plenty of time." I looked over at the clock and saw that it was just passed noon.
"Great. I'm gonna take a shower and hopefully wash away all remnants of last night." I stretched and got off the bed. "Aside you coming to my rescue," I added, leaning down to give Garrett a quick kiss.
"Not so fast," he said, grabbing my hand and pulling me back to him as I'd begun walking away. He gently brought my lips to his and kissed me more passionately. I smiled into him.
"I've got morning breath so bad," I laughed.
"I don't give a fuck about your morning breath."
"Just wait until I wake up from a night fueled by garlic, onions, and whiskey." I gave him a wink and blew him a kiss as I walked to the bathroom.
Because the hotel basically had a never-ending supply of hot water, I spent almost a full hour relaxing, washing, and exfoliating my entire body. By the time I was done, I felt like all of the sadness from the previous night had been expelled thru my pores.
I gave my hair a thorough tousle with the towel until it was damp, but no longer dripping. The steam from the shower made the small bathroom feel like a sauna, so I wrapped a dry towel around my body and exited the room. The cool air of the hotel room hit me and I sighed happily as I fell back on the bed.
"Feel better," Garrett asked. I tilted my head back so I was looking at him upside down. He was doing his best to look anywhere but me.
"Am I making you uncomfortable," I laughed. When he didn't answer, I got concerned. "Oh shit, I'm actually making you uncomfortable." I sat up and turned to face him, making sure my towel still had me covered.
"It's not that. Not exactly." He managed to look at me this time, but he seemed embarrassed.
"You know you can talk to me, no judgement."
"I know." He lifted his glasses and squeezed the bridge of his nose. I was worried at what he was going to say, but I didn't want to push him. "You already know that you're the first woman I've had feelings for in almost ten years," he began, "but we've never had an opportunity to talk about my previous experiences, or lack thereof."
"I don't care about that, Garrett." I reached out and put my hand on his knee, trying to reassure him.
"I know you don't, because sometimes you act more like a Hufflepuff than me, but I care. Seeing you like that - happy, beautiful, and nearly naked - makes me want to do things that I have no confidence in how to do. I've only ever gotten to second base, and even then it was above bra."
I had to bite my lip to keep from smiling. While I really felt for him, I couldn't help but think this was simultaneously the most wholesome and arousing situation I'd ever been in.
"Close your eyes," I told him as I stood.
"What? Why?"
"Just sit facing me and then close your eyes." He did as I'd said and repositioned himself so he was sitting at the edge of the bed before closing his eyes. When I was satisfied that he wasn't peaking, I dropped my towel.
