It'd been a week and training had started up again. Swimming, combat training, the works. My team had gotten better and better and kept asking me why I didn't seem like myself.
I told them it was because I wasn't feeling too well. Little did they know it was because Beyer ran off after our little make out session.
I hadn't seen him since that night. Which is probably good. He was my superior and I wasn't supposed to get involved in the first place, but my mind had other thoughts. Every night I had gone to bed with the same thoughts. Why did he leave like that? Why did I let myself do that? and, how do I stop?
I knew the answer to the last two questions. One, because I wanted to, and two I can't. I was falling for this guy and all our encounters had been him yelling at me, saving me, or making out with me. Not the start of a perfect relationship.
We were doing combat training, lead by Zander, when Beyer walks in. We all stop to salute Beyer.
I try not to make eye contact, but I look anyway. He looks at Zander talking to him quietly. Zander seems to look at me for a second, but I'm not sure.
"Jenkins." Zander says, "You're going with Beyer."
I nod following Beyer out of the room.
Once it's just us I drop the formalities.
"What the hell are you doing?" I ask.
He doesn't respond.
"You can't just pull me out of the middle of my training and you can't-" He cuts me off by pushing me against the wall and kissing me. He stops and keeps walking.
"AND you can't just kiss me whenever you please, especially not after a week of not talking to me and running off after we- yeah."
Beyer seems to smile.
"Don't smile," I say angrily, "You still haven't told me why you pulled me out of training. The guys are going to give me shit."
"Let them give you shit." He says, the first words to come out of his mouth.
"Oh, he speaks."
Once we get to his room he stops and shuts to door. He rubs the back of his neck sitting down on his bed.
"What's wrong?" I ask sitting down next to him.
"I just wanted to tell you that I'm leaving."
"Leaving?" I ask.
"Yes, they want me to leave for Afghanistan."
I sit there in silence. This was a big deal.
"When do you leave?"
"A week." He quiet for minute then adds, "and they want you and your team to come with me."
My eyes get wide and I stand up, "You're kidding me. I haven't even finished training and the guys well they'll-"
"They'll be fine." Beyer says standing up grabbing my hands.
"I'm really going to be doing a tour with you and the guys in Afghanistan?"
Beyer nods.

After talking to Beyer about the specifics I went to find my team. They had finished their morning training and were currently getting breakfast. I sit down with them, not having gotten any food.
"Oh, she looks serious." Says Goss.
"Of course she's serious, she didn't bring any food." Samuel chimes in.
"Are we in trouble?" Langston adds jokingly.
"No." I laugh. "I have some news."
"Oh, you and Beyer finally did it. You naughty girl." Rucker says and Ryan laughs.
"No!" I scream grabbing Rucker's food and throwing it at him, "We are going to do a tour in Afghanistan."
The guys pause.
"What?" They say in unison.
"You heard me."
Just like that I start getting bombarded with a million questions. When do we leave? How is this happening? Why us? Blah blah blah.
I proceed to give the guys details about what is going down. They listen closely. Once done the guys hoot and holler.
--
It's the next week and we all wait in the airport to leave. Now that the day has finally come I've gotten a little nervous. Some of the guys as well. Beyer stands calm and collected as always. Since our kiss last week nothing else has happened and I have managed to keep my distance. I didn't want to risk anything.
I called my parents letting them know what was happening. My mother cried of course and my father gave me encouraging words. Once the plane was here I grabbed my bag and got ready for the war to come.
