Tanner

It's only been a week of rehearsal and I'm tired. My throat hurts from all the singing and talking and the guy that plays Emmett, Wyatt Richmond, doesn't really seem into me like his character should be.

We're rehearsing the kiss scene. His lips come close to mine when Mrs. Rozalia stops us.

"This is all wrong," She sighs as she slams her playbook on the desk.

"What?" Wyatt asks, taking a big step away from me.

"You two. There isn't enough chemistry. Daniel, can you get out here please?" She calls. Daniel comes running from backstage.

"Yeah?" He asks as he looks over at me with a shy smile.

"Take Wyatt's place and let's take the scene from the top," She calls out. Everyone gets in their positions. We go through the scene.

When it gets to the kiss I try not to think too much about it. There wasn't any real emotion in it. It was for a play.

No emotion. No emotion. No emotion.

Then his lips are on mine. And I know everything I've told myself is a lie. There was emotion. Real emotion. On both sides.

When Daniel and I pull away, I have my eyes closed for a second longer.

"See that! That is the emotion I need! That looked like a genuine kiss between two people that liked each other! Daniel, congrats. You just got yourself bumped up from understudy," She says. I watch as Daniel's face lights up.

"Congrats," I laugh pulling him into a hug.

"With that settled, I think we're done for today," Mrs. Rozalia says as she closes her playbook.

Daniel and I walk backstage together to get our stuff.

"You need a ride home?" He asks, as he flings his backpack over his shoulder.

"Uh. Yeah sure," I smile as I follow him out the auditorium doors. We walk in silence to his car.

"I hope that kiss thing didn't scare you. I didn't know it was going to happen and I don't know if you were comfortable with it," He says, his cheeks reddening as he pulls out of the school parking lot.

"It didn't bother me or anything. It was for the play," I say with a slight shrug.

"That's the thing though," He sighs as she turns down the main street.

"What?" I ask. He shakes his head.

"Never mind. What's your address?" He asks. I tell him and he nods.

"What's the thing though Daniel?" I ask. He shakes his head again.

"It's nothing, Tanner. It's stupid anyways," He says as he turns down my street.

"Dani tell me," I mumble, trying to get him to at least glance at me. He doesn't.

"Look, I'll talk to you tomorrow," He says as he puts the car in park. When I look out the window, we're right outside my house.

"I- Okay. See you tomorrow. Thank you," I mumble as I grab my backpack and get out of his car. I shut the door and make my way up the driveway. I open the front door and walk in without looking back at him.

I go straight up to my room without talking to anyone. And when I get to my room I shut the door and go straight to doing my homework. Why Daniel not telling me got me so upset I don't know. But it did. And I don't want to be around anyone for the rest of the night.

Ending sucks but then again when does it not? lol
