Nayeon's reaction to you confessing your feelings towards her.
It had been three long weeks since you started your new intern job at this large company in the city, bringing coffee to the business men and women, printing files and documents all day every day. It was more tiring than you thought, and public transport was way more expensive than you had first expected as you weren't able to afford a car of your own yet. You were proud of yourself for being able to accomplish something without the help of your parents for once, as they loved to baby you every time you would visit. You were proud yes, but it was so tiring. Every night you would be asked to stay a few extra hours and honestly, sometimes you contemplated pouring hot coffee over your boss' head every time he would ask for your help with something he could have easily done himself. It had been the third consecutive day in which you stayed until late into the night, the time on your phone reading 11:00pm and your shift finished at 8:00.
The journey home was much more dangerous late at night, as you'd see a lot of strange people come on and off the subway, occasionally drunk too. You tried to block it out by listening to music but you really didn't know if one of these days something could happen to you. Well, work was worth it right? Not really.
It was dead on 11:30 when you walked up the driveway to your little apartment which was located right at the top of a steep hill in which you struggled to climb.
You adjusted the bag draped over your shoulder every time it would slip down slightly, breathing heavily as you reached down to grab the house key from your pocket. You pulled it out, fiddling with the lock as it wouldn't open straight away like usual. You twisted the door knob, eyes widening as you realised your door had been unlocked this whole time. You swore you could've remembered locking it this morning.
You stepped inside, dropping your bags to the floor with a huff before slapping your hands onto your thighs. "Is this a robbery or what?"
You gained no response, but froze when you heard footsteps trailing closer to the bottom of your stairs. It sounded as though they were almost jogging. Well this was it, the moment you were to get murdered, probably stabbed. You didn't waste time in thinking about your funeral and what all your family and friends would think about this.
"N-Nayeon? What the hell are you doing in my house?!" Your muscles relaxed slightly as you realised it wasn't a robbery and merely a close friend of yours.
You removed your shoes, walking closer to the other. "You gave me a spare key, remember? And I was worried, you didn't answer any of my texts or calls." The older woman opened her arms, gesturing for you to give her a welcoming hug. You shook your head, walking over to the fridge to grab yourself a drink instead. "You scared me, I thought I was going to get murdered." Pouring a glass of Soju, you felt the presence of the other behind you. "I'm sorry. So how's work?" The brunette questioned, hoisting herself to sit on the counter as you stood in front of her, gulping on the alcohol with a slight feeling of relief. "Shit." You laughed, topping yourself up another glass of the same beverage.
"Talk to me about it? I'll listen." "No." You groaned, your head tilting backwards out of frustration. "You know, you push everyone away, Y/N. We all try to be good friends towards you...but you're so cold these days."
You turned to face Nayeon and quickly averted your gaze from her own, finishing your second drink you placed the glass onto the side and laughed softly, already knowing that Nayeon was frowning into the back of your skull. You knew just what set her off and liked the fact you could use it against her at any time. "Nice Y/N. So you're just going to do this again? Where you act like I'm a total stranger to you. I'm one of your closest friends and you hurt me all the time."
The others words caused a lump to form in your throat, standing with your back facing her you didn't dare to look her in the eyes at this moment.
Breathing deeply, you managed to find the courage to turn around, jumping slightly as the woman was now down from the counter and standing closer to you with her eyebrows furrowed and arms crossed. "Something could happen to you on the way home, taking public transport by yourself at night is dangerous. You never even let me pick you up from work." Nayeon sighed. "I feel like we're drifting apart." She pushed out, almost at the same level as a whisper.
You frowned before looking towards the floor, doing anything to stop tears from cascading down your cheeks. You tried for weeks to shut down emotionally with her, showing your feelings to anyone but her. You can't let her back in, not this time.
It might have been too late as you looked up blurry eyed, your eyes full with emotion. "I hate what you've done to me." You now spoke up, voice raised as you screamed mentally for speaking your mind to the woman. The woman who made your knees weak, the woman who was capable of making you worship her if she ever wanted. No one had ever had this power over you before, not even your long term ex lovers.
"W-What?" Nayeon asked innocently, her soft voice breaking. It felt as thought she could feel the sadness you were feeling, like you were connected. "You shouldn't care about me. Leave me alone."
Nayeon ran a hand through her hair, laughing in a manner where she couldn't come to compensate the words which were escaping your lips, tears quickly filling her eyes and travelling down her cheeks. "What have I done that's so bad? All I've ever done is care."
You bit your lip, covering the tips of your fingers with the comforting material of your jacket. "That's just the problem." Your voice lowered now, almost monotone as you managed to shake off any emotion you felt all in one split second.
"You're so pathetic, some people wouldn't put up with your shit." Nayeon started walking towards you, shouting in your face until you finally felt yourself snap. You lifted your head from the ground, fists clenched. "I fucking love you. I have for longer than I can remember... so will you please be quiet." You started the sentence by shouting but found yourself talking normally as you asked for the other to quiet down.
It went silent for a moment, you knew you could lose your close friend in this moment and that terrified you.
"You break my heart every day.." Nayeon wiped her tear stained cheeks with her sleeve. "You're cold to me, yet you love me?"
If you heard her correctly she hasn't yet run away, or avoided the situation completely. "N-Nayeon, I was cold because I've never felt this way about anyone before and it's so scary."
The woman looked shocked but on the other hand, it almost looked as though her whole face softened, like she was no longer angry. "Do you know how much it hurts me to see you so close to other girls?" The woman avoided looking you in the eyes for a moment, sliding her hands in between yours. "If I haven't been making it obvious for you, you're dense."
"I've loved you ever since I had the pleasure to lay my eyes on you, Y/N." Your heart exploded inside your chest as your hands found themselves cupping the others face, before you grabbed the back of her neck and pulled her into a tight embrace, her hands finding your waist almost immediately. "You feel the same?" You nervously asked, taking comfort in the crook of her neck. "I always have, now please don't act so cold towards me." She smiled as you nodded. "Never again."
