13  SCARRED

The lightening flashed through the curtains making the whole scene a lot scarier than it already was.

The storm was loud but somehow I couldn't forget the way I heard my name behind me. Anger, want and determination was exactly what accompanied the loud echo running after me.

I ran as fast as my legs could take me. It was then I realized that I could run but I couldn't hide. I could see the shadows of my worse nightmare being highlighted on the walls as ran for my life.

I was about to run up the stairs when I slipped and fell. It was then I knew I'd met my doom.

Flashlight by Jesse J (Pitch Perfect 2)

"...I got all I need when I got you and I, I look around me, see a sweet life. I'm stuck in the dark but you're my flashlight. You gettin' me, gettin' me, through the night..."

Tunde continued; "...You kick start my heart when you shine it in my eyes, can't lie, it's a sweet life. I'm stuck in the dark but you're my flashlight, you gettin' me, gettin' me, through the night..."

We both chorused; "Cause you're my flashlight, you're my flashlight, you're my flashlight..."

Normally, I hated singing in front of other people but I didn't know where the boldness had come from as we entertained our class. It was Tunde's idea though.
The karaoke played through a small MP while Tunde and I provided the lyrics with our voices. The class applauded and praised us before we even finished singing and that made me more confident.

After we'd finished the first song, they pleaded with us to sing another one, and we did. And that's how I ended up temporarily loosing my voice.

It was the last day of school and we were waiting for our termly results while we having fun in class.

"I wish I could sing like you" China said to me.

"I love your voice. You sound good together!" another girl said to Tunde and I. I couldn't help but smile and blush.

"Let's play truth or dare!" someone suggested and that was immediately the end of karaoke. I decided not to play along with some other people. I didn't want to be dared to do something bizarre or asked weird questions.

Tunde was also going to decline too but one girl- who was always lingering around him- persuaded him. I couldn't remember the girl's name since she was from the Art class.

I and the rest of the other people who weren't playing watched the game that was being played on floor in a circle with a Coke bottle.

Whoever that refused or chickened out of a dare would pay five hundred naira. That was the rule of the game.
