A week later Jennie found herself in her room, bags under her eyes, staring upat her ceiling in thought. It had been the most miserable week in her life

Chaeyoung hadn't spoken even one word to her and seemed to be actively avoiding her, forwhenever she went into the same room as Chaeyoung or tried to sit next to her, Chaeng would leave or look at her weird and move seats

Shesighed and stood up with her book to go to the common room and read in front ofthe fire. As soon as she got out there she tensed up, for Chaeyoung was in there, and trudged on, plopping on the sofa. She sat therereading, the tension growing thicker and thicker as they stayed in the sameroom together longer and longer. Finally, Jennie had a chance to tell Chaeyoung how she felt, but Chaeyoung seemed to be very irritated at the moment, swearing at her homework every few minutes and frequently rubbing at her eyes.

Jennie thought Chaeng was mad at her homework but was proven wrong as Chaeng slammed her bookshut and demanded, "What the hell is wrong with you?"

Jennie sat there, willing herself to stay calm. The last time she had gotten angry at Chaeng it had ended in them not speaking for a week. "I just came out here toread."

That'sgreat," said Chaeyoung sarcastically, obviously to her wit's end. "Allyou've wanted me to do for years is leave you alone, and now that I am youwon't stop trying to come near me! Is this some form of payback for the lastthree years, is that it? I'm sorry about that, I really am! Please...just leave mealone, Jennie," she finished pathetically, no heat in her voice.

Jennie stood up and walked until she was standing right in front of chaeng, looking downinto those eyes so full of pain. She gathered her courage and softly, finally, said, "But...I'm in love with you, Rosie."

Aflicker of hope flared in those beautiful eyes of hers before they went back totheir dark, lifeless brown. "You're a sick woman," she said to Jennie, whose mouth fell open in shock. "This is how you're going tobe?" she asked icily. "You're set on paying me back in the cruelestway possible, telling me something I've wanted to hear for three years? You disgustme, I never knew you could stoop so—"

Crack!

Jennie's hand met Chaeyoung's face, almost knocking her out of her chair. Chaeng shot up withsurprising speed and grabbed Jennie's wrist, stopping her shaking hand fromconnecting with her face again. Chaeng was about to shout at Jennie to not hit her when she stopped because there were tears pouring down Jennie's face, her lipsquivering and her shoulders shaking. "Y-you told me," she said ascried, not bothering to wipe the tears off her face. "You told me t-to hityou if y-you ever h-hurt me again," she said, taking uneven breaths

"W-what?" Chaeng asked, taken aback.

"Eversince the dance," Jennie said, still crying, "I've been in love withyou. I was going to tell you when you found the diary in my room. But apparently, Idisgust you," she spat, tearing her hand out of Chaeng's grip.

Jennie turned around and began marching back to her room, shoulders squared when Chaeyoung's hands grabbed her arms and turned her around before Chaeng smashed her lipsagainst hers in a searing kiss, Chaeng's hands wrapping around Jennie's back to hold herin place

Jennie threaded her fingers through her hair, smiling into the kiss as she respondedjust as passionately.

Chaeng tasted Jennie's tears on her lips and Chaeng tightened her hold on Jennie, vowing tonever let anything hurt her again.

Theylingered a bit before they broke the kiss, both of them panting and their facesred. "I love you too," said Chaeyoung

Jennie smiled and used her sleeves to wipe the tears off her face before saying,"I already know that."

"Iknow," said Chaeng, still holding on to Jennie. "I've always wanted totell you when you loved me too."

Jennie'ssmile grew even wider and she gave Chaeng a chaste peck on the lips beforepushing her down on the couch and bringing Chaeng's bag over to her. Jennie sat on Chaeng's lap and pulled out her book, resting her back against Chaeng's chest. Chaeng wrapped an arm around Jennie's waist and kissed the side of her head and they fellinto a comfortable silence as they both read, content with just being with eachother at that moment.

Theyhad taken what was probably the longest, hardest path to happiness, but somehowthey had found their way.
