Why Is It This Way?

Chapter Two Elaine's POV

Wow, so I guess I'm Rose now. Which is totally fine with me. But Gwen is Scorpius. That means Gwen and I are dating. Well, we aren't dating but Rose and Scorpius are. I don't really care, I just have to imagine that I'm with Scorpius and not Gwen.
"Elaine! Elaine! "
I snap out of my thoughts to see Tatiana and Bea staring at me.
"Elaine are you okay?" Tatiana questions
"Yeah, you haven't really said anything since we left the school" Bea adds
"Oh yeah, sorry, just thinking," I say
"Okay, I think that this math journal is the stupidest one yet!"
Tatiana likes to rant on the walks home from school. A lot. Tatiana and Bea are my friends who I walk to and from school with. The thing is that I have two friend groups, group A has Tatiana and Bea in it along with a few other people and group B has Maggie, Gwen, Marrissa, Nash, Ren and Alex. The problem with that situation is that group A and B don't get along so I always have to choose who to hang out with. I tune Tatiana and Bea out, not because I don't like them but because I've got too much on my mind right now.

I'm sitting at my desk in my room, working on my stupid math journal project when my door swings open. No knock. It's my mom.
"Hey my little Turtle, how's the homework coming?" She says with a smile on her face
"Slowly. It's another stupid math journal project."
"Ew, those things are awful. Do you have any other homework?"
"Yeah, I have to write a French skit for a photobomb thing."
"Well, how about you skip the math journal for tonight and work on your French skit?"
"Mom! it's due by the end of this week!"
"Turtle it's Monday, you'll be fine!"
"Okay..."
"Good! Now finish it up quickly so we can watch a movie!"
She winks at me and leaves my room, shutting the door behind her. I put my math journal stuff back into my binder and work on my share of the skit.

Tuesday. The first full day of the role play. I arrive at school a little early today, Tatiana convinced Bea and I to leave early this morning. Which we really didn't need to do, we get to school on time if we leave at our normal time. I say goodbye to Tatiana and Bea when we get to the side of the school. This is the point where I have to choose who to stand with until the bell rings. Either group A or group B. I decided to go with group B. Whenever I go with group A I always feel like I'm missing out on something that's happening in group B and considering something new was introduced yesterday to the group B friend group I really don't want to miss anything. I walk over to Marrissa and Maggie, they are singing some random song from 'Hamilton'. I smile and sing along when I hear a voice behind me.
"Hey Rose" I turn around and see Gwen standing behind me with a smile plastered on her face. Her smile isn't too big, but it isn't too small either, it's perfect. I'm not saying that her smile is perfect but the way she is smiling right now is a great way to start off the morning.
"Hello, Scorpius," I say almost coldly, but to reassure her that Rose and Scorpius are not currently in a fight I shoot her a small smile and go back to singing 'Hamilton'.

Second break. The second break is when we are allowed to go off property for forty minutes and not stay at the school. We can eat when we want, be as loud as we want and play on our phone's whenever we want. Today we decide to go to a little forest area called 'Gracie Forest' it's got rocks that we like to sit on and just talk and eat. Sometimes we watch 'Netflix' on Nash's phone or play with a VR headset that Nash also provides. Today we are just sitting and talking. I park myself onto a rock, everyone but Gwen and I pull out their lunches and start eating. Both Gwen and I finished our lunches first break. Before I know it I feel a heavyweight on my lap. Breaking my stare with the ground I look up and see Gwen sitting on my lap smiling down at me. I smile back at her when a hear an almost threatening voice.
"Get. Off. My. Daughter. NOW SCORPIUS MALFOY!" Marrissa booms
Gwen looks down at me and smiles, we both break out into a fit of laughter.
"Mrs. Granger-Weasley that is my girlfriend and I think I'm allowed to sit on her lap." Gwen says. Gwen's voice seems small compared to Marrissa's. I decide to play along as well.
"Mom! Scorpius is my boyfriend and I want him to sit on my lap!"
"Not on my watch." Marrissa hisses. She grabs Gwen's arm and pulls her to a rock a few down from me. All Gwen does is smile at me. And I smile back.

The last bell rings indicating the end of school. I find Bea and Tatiana and say goodbye to Gwen. Gwen smiles at me and says jokingly "Bye Rosie Posie, I'll miss you". I lightly shove her and walk away, leaving her with a glaring Marrissa.
"What the heck just happened" Tatiana turns to me and says. "You guys are so weird"
"Whatever" I respond "So are you guys done your math journals yet?"
"Ugh no, Elaine were you paying attention when the teacher said she wants it by tomorrow instead?"
Crap
"Ha sucks for you guys, my teacher just gave us another week to work on it," Bea says. Bea is in a different class. She still has to do math journals and the photobomb things, and even though she and our teacher are best friends, her teacher is a lot more easy-going. Looks like my night is going to be filled with me hunched over my desk working on my stupid math journal. And for the cherry on top of a fantastic night, I don't even have Gwen's number so she can get me through it on a call.
