"4 am, wonderful." Bell sat up in bed after a sleepless night after his nightmare. He was used to no sleep at night, so the lack of sleep during the day never bothered him anymore. He just needed a lot of coffee and something to take his mind off the lack of sleep. Chastain was the perfect place to obtain both of those things.
He walked into Chastain and went straight to the coffee machine. Right before he was going to pour the coffee an ER nurse ran into the lounge. "Doctor Bell, we're short a couple of doctors and nurses today in the ER. A couple and their daughter suffered a horrible car crash and we need everyone we can get!" She sprinted out, Bell right behind her as they ran to the ER.
Bell walks into the ER to find it in total chaos. Blood was splattered on the floor in huge amounts which made a trail to the family who had been caught in the fatal accident. Bell ran over only to stop in his tracks as soon as he saw the family. The mom and dad were both unconscious while their daughter, who looked to be in her teens, had a couple of scratches and bruises but nothing compared to her parents horrible condition. Bell couldn't move a muscle. It was as if his brain lost all connection with his body. He felt a wave of dizziness and nausea come over him which woke his body up and forced him to move to an ER bed. He took a seat as the world was swirling around him. His environment went from the ER of Chastain to the night he lost his parents. "No. No, I don't want to go back! Not now!" Bell yelled as the sounds around him went from beeps and yelling to car alarms. He saw him mom laying there, lifeless. He wanted to stand but he was glued to the bed. "I couldn't save her! I tried so damn hard! But I couldn't save her!" Tears started to stream down his face as he stared at her broken body. "Why the hell did it have to happen to me! What did I do?! Answer me!? What did I do?!" His vision started to fade and he was left with darkness. He was all alone. So, so alone.
"I don't think this is the right way, Dad."
"Of course it is! We've always driven on this road when road tripping."
Randolph looked down on his phone which had directions for a faster route. "Dad, this route is slower. We should take a faster route."
"This route has more sight seeing for your mother. You know how she loves to take her pictures."
Randolph rolled his eyes and turned off his phone. "Alrighty then. If it makes mom happy then I'm happy."
"You have to learn to love all the amazing things in the world, Randy," his mom said, looking outside. "You never know when it could all go away."
"Alright. Whatever you say." Randolph looks up from his phone to see no one. Only him in the dark car with no sign of light outside. "Mom? Dad?" He looked in the empty seats where his parents were seated a couple of seconds ago.
"Randolph." He looked up and tried to find the voice. "Randolph, Randolph." He looked out the windshield. The voices were in front of him, and getting louder. He slowly climbed into the front seat to try to get closer to the voice. He leaned forward to try to see out of the window through the pitch black darkness, the headlights barely lighting the road. "Randolph!" The voice boomed loud in the car as another car came head on and hit with enough force to kill him."
"Randolph!"
Bell jerked awake and yelled at the top of his lungs, as a spasm went through his whole body, sending him off the ER bed, and crashing into a heart rate monitor. He landed hard on his upper back and let out another scream. He curled into a trembling ball as he tried to catch his breath. He felt hands on him which sent him down another spiral of panic. He screamed and swung his arms wildly as to swat a fly that couldn't die. The hands disappeared to be replaced by a calming voice. Kits voice.
Kit looked at the shaking Randolph in shock. She's never seen him freak out like this, let alone show crazy emotions like this of any kind. She slowly approached him and took a seat next to his quivering body. "Randolph. It's okay I'm here. It's me, Kit," she said as she slowly put her hand on his back. She could feel his tense muscles slowly relax at her touch. She started to rub his back to try to relax him even more. He soon stopped shaking and he was able to sit up, but she could still tell he was in horrible condition. "Do you want to sit on the bed?" Kit offered. Randolph looked at her and nodded then stood up slowly. She helped him sit on the bed, then resumed to rub his back. "Do you want to talk about this? Or do you want to leave it? We can talk about it later too if you want."
Bell looked at her with red eyes from the tears and shook his head. "I can't talk about this. I just want to be alone."
Kit nodded as she removed her hand from his back and stood. "I want to let you know that you can talk to me. You're not alone. I'm here for you." With that she walked away, talking a couple of glances back before she couldn't anymore and she rounded the corner.
Randolph watched her leave then looked down at his hands. He's never had an episode like that, but he feared it would only get worse from here.
