I went to Shinso's house instead of my own, because I really wanted to talk to him. His mother opened the door for me and told me he was up in his room. I thanked her and hurried up the stairs.
I knocked on Shinso's door before entering, immediately sighing and letting myself fall onto his bed. A white cat came towards me and nuzzled my shoulder. I reached out to pet it.
"Why're you in such a mood?", Shinso asked from the chair at his desk.
"I went to see my dad", I answered.
"You did?", Shinso asked in a surprised tone. "When?"
"Just now. I came straight here."
"You could have told me. I would've come with you", Shinso said.
"I know", I sighed, rolling onto my side to face him while still petting the white cat. "I just didn't want to bother you with my family issues."
Shinso rubbed the back of his neck and turned around to close the books on his desk. "You are my family", he murmured. "Your issues are never a bother, I just want to help."
"Thank you, Toshi", I sincerely said. "I just can't believe my dad. Even when I visited him, he... He doesn't show any remorse at all, I can't believe he had all of us fooled for so long. The police said he's been engaged in criminal activities for years. Years! How did none of us notice? He's my dad. I should have noticed."
"Don't start blaming yourself. There's nothing you could have done", Shinso said. "He betrayed you and it's his loss."
"He worked with the League of Villains, the ones who attacked the school", I mumbled. "Do you know what he told me today? He was planning to get me to join them after graduating from UA, so I would be properly trained to stand up against heroes. I can't believe him."
"Okay, so he's an ass", Shinso said as he sat down next to me on the bed. "Don't let him get to you, (n/n), you're nothing like him."
"I know", I murmured, still sulking. "But the League recognized me. I know I didn't tell you about it before, but... Tomura Shigaraki, who appeared to be their leader, recognized me. Some of my classmates almost found out who my dad is, and I don't think they'd look at me the same if they did."
"So you managed to keep it a secret?", Shinso asked.
"Bakugo knows", I mumbled. "He's smarter than he looks. Shigaraki never mentioned that I'm Debiru's daughter, but Bakugo made the connection himself. I asked him to keep it quiet and he agreed to do so."
"Bakugo is the blond kid, right?", Shinso asked. "You sure he won't tell anyone?"
"I don't really know what to think of him, but he seemed sincere when he said he wouldn't tell anyone", I answered. "I think he'll keep it a secret."
"Let's hope so", Shinso mumbled. "And even if he doesn't, your classmates shouldn't look at you any differently, they know what kind of person you are."
"I've talked to some people, yes, but I don't have any friends, Toshi", I replied. "You are my best and only friend. So far the only people in class I've had a somewhat decent conversation with are Bakugo and Kirishima. Kaminari was really kind about my appearance, so I think he's also a nice guy."
"Let's hope so", Shinso said again. "Anyway, you up for training? The Sports Festival is in less than two weeks."
"Yeah, let's train!", I replied, happy with the distraction. "I saw the field on my way here and it was empty, so we should go there."
Shinso nodded and we both got up.
The two weeks until the Sports Festival went by rather quickly, Shinso and I training nearly every day to get more in shape. In school, Kaminari and Kirishima were very kind and talked to me more, giving me some hope that maybe we could become real friends.
