Cas waited for several seconds as the ringing went on.  Finally, when he thought he couldn't take it anymore, it was answered.  "What now?" Came an angry voice from the other end.

"Sam," Cas spoke.

"Oh, it's you.  I thought it was... Never mind.  What's up?"

"Sam, what do humans do for each other's birthday?"

"Oh, you heard it was Dean's birthday today?"

Cas didn't answer right away, but when he did, all he said was "yes".

"Well, we usually give the person whose birthday it is a present."

"What kind of present?"

Sam laughed, "Cas, just get him a pie."

"Pie? What if I get him the wrong kind?"

"There is no wrong kind of pie when it comes to Dean."

"Okay..."

They hung up and Cas sighed.  He appeared inside a bakery that was near the town where the Winchesters were.  It had closed for the night and he took a look at the pie counter.  Apple, banana cream, pumpkin, and more.  He sighed and grabbed the apple pie.  He didn't have any money so he left a note saying "I'm sorry, but it was important".

Then, he disappeared and reappeared at the hotel that the brothers were staying at.  Dean was lying on his bed and Sam was nowhere to be seen.

"Dean," he spoke softly so he wouldn't scare him.

Dean jumped anyways and looked at Cas.  "Hey, what's up?  It has to be something important for you to pop in these days."

"Uh..." Cas stuttered.  He supposed it was important but now he was embarrassed that he had to admit he came for Dean.

The Winchester got up and that's when he noticed the pie.  He looked at it for awhile, trying to figure out why the angel had food with him.  "Cas..?"

"I called Sam and he said you like pie... So, happy birthday.." He held the apple pie out to his friend.

Dean chuckled as he accepted the gift.  "My birthday.  Right.  How did you know?"

"You told me.. Awhile ago and..." He stuttered, looking for where he was going with this explanation.

"Thank you, Cas.  I appreciate it," he smiled and looked a little nervous.  "But, it wasn't exactly the gift I wanted to receive from you."

"Oh... Um.  I'm sorry..?" Cas felt bad.  Dean was disappointed with the gift.  Suddenly, he just wanted to go somewhere else but he couldn't and he didn't know why.  "What did you want me to give you?"

Dean instantly flushed red.  He mumbled something but Castiel still heard it. He relaxed as he realized how Dean felt.  He closed the space between them and gave him a kiss.

As they broke apart, Dean smiled, "best birthday present ever."
